Episode 401
What if the key to making Human Design work for you wasn’t about getting more answers, but about shifting the way you approach the whole system?
In this episode, Nicole responds to one of the most common questions she gets from entrepreneurs: “What’s the number one thing I should know about Human Design?” Her response may not be what you expect—and it could change the way you think about your chart forever.
Rather than focusing on quick fixes or rigid rules, Nicole reveals two core practices that create real breakthroughs. She explains why so many people unknowingly stall their own progress, how to stop forcing results, and the perspective shift that makes Human Design feel lighter, more inspiring, and far more effective.
You’ll hear the surprising reason some people move quickly with this system while others feel stuck, and how to open yourself to insights that naturally move you forward. These are the tools Nicole wishes every client had from the start, because they make the process more enjoyable and lead to lasting success.
If you’ve been feeling impatient, frustrated, or unsure of how to work with your chart, this episode offers the clarity and encouragement you need to reset your approach and finally experience the transformation you’ve been hoping for.

Episode 401:
Hello, and welcome to Unshakeable with Human Design. I’m your host, Nicole Laino. And. And it’s just you and I today, and I’m going to address a question in today’s episode that I got asked in a group of entrepreneurs. A lot of them had been dabbling in human design, and they had been asking me questions. And then one of them was like, can you give me, like, your number one tip? Like, what’s your number one thing that, like, everybody needs to know about human design and working with it? And I thought about it, and I honestly, I came up with two. There were two kind of equally important tips, so to speak. Human design isn’t the type of, like, system that has lots of tips necessarily. It has instructions that you kind of play with and make your own.
And it’s this vast system that has so much depth that when it boils down to, like, what’s a number one tip? I was like, huh? What is my number one tip with human design? What is the thing that I wish that everybody knew? What is it that. And that was how I got into thinking about this, was if I thought about it and I said, what is it that I wish everybody who came to work with me did? Or what is it that I wish my clients, I could get them passed faster? That was how I started to think about this. Cause I was like, give me a minute and let me come back to that. Like, I think I have something, but let me come back to you. And what I landed on were actually two things.
There were two things that I thought, you know, I don’t know if I could pick one of these. I think it has to be both. So. And nobody’s ever too angry with, you know, sharing more than they asked for. So they got two tips instead of just one. And I figured this might be a great topic for the show and I could share this with you, everybody who’s listening. Because if you are dedicated enough to listen to this show, to take time out of your day, if you come back time and time again, or even if this is your first time listening and you’re just starting to dive into your human design, these tips will help you have greater success, certainly more fun with the system and you’ll start to see whatever it is that you got into human design for.
But particularly with business where we’re looking to get results from it, we’re looking for human design to deliver on something for us, which is tricky territory because it’s hard to put a deadline on transformation. And that was how I kind of approached this. I came back and I was like, well, if everybody that I worked with did these two things, I know they would get to transformation faster. I know they would get what they were looking at of human design. In fact, I know they’d get more than they even knew was possible. And that’s what I’m going to share with you today. Before we get started, I do want to mention that we have.
If you’re interested in human design for business, if you really want to know what it takes to grow a multi six figure business, a business that is profitable not just about revenue, not just about a vanity number of how much money you make. Because I hear entrepreneurs all the time, after they’ve gotten over the hump, of course, once they’ve righted themselves, they tell this story. But a lot of them will say that, you know, on Instagram and on social media and all of the other platforms, I looked like I was having this, you know, this ride and high life and making seven figures and doing all this in the house and all of that. And I was broke. Zero profit. And that I have been there, not zero profit.
I don’t know if I’ve been there, but I have been in that situation where I’ve had revenue but I did not have the profit to match. And now I’m very proud to say that we keep over six figures of income in this business. I take home more than six figures, but my business makes multiple six figures. And the reason that I do that is I care about my profit margins and I have systems built and I have a way that I have approached this through a lot of hard lessons, learned a lot of mistakes that I’ve made. And what I’ve done is I have put this together, an entire private podcast. So separate from this podcast, I created another podcast that is just kind of a standalone thing. We’re not adding episodes to it or anything like that. It’s 13 episodes.
And it basically walks you through the whole process of creating an aligned and profitable business with human design. If you’re interested in that. All you have to do to get that is to DM me the word secret podcast on Instagram. I’m icoleno official or go to nicolelaino.com forward/secret podcast. And you can download it right there on the website or just go to the show notes. We have it all linked up for you. We’ve got you taken care of. Okay, so let’s get started on these two tips. Now, when you’re approaching human design, I often have people, you know, when they book readings with me or if they’re in business by design with me, where we’re working together really closely over a period of time, they will ask me questions like, you know, what does my chart say about this? Oh, I’m having this problem.

What is my chart say about this? And the way that we’re asking that question, usually I can hear it in their voice, I could hear it in their tone. I hear them wanting answer. And it’s not that the chart can’t provide answers, of course it can. But it doesn’t provide direct answers the way that we necessarily want it to with a question like, what does my chart say about this? Because underneath that it’s like, what should I do? And the chart gives you guidelines. The chart. I always say if you’re looking for answers in the chart, you’re probably going to be disappointed because they’re not going to be as clear as you wanted them to be. I’m not saying it never happens.
But in general, if you’re looking at your life and you’re saying, any problem I have, I’m going to go pull out my human design chart and I’m going to figure out why this is happening and what the answer is so I can fix it. There’s a forcing nature to that. And what I find is that usually forces people into incorrect action because you’re in your head, you’re thinking about it, you’re looking for answer. You’re looking for logic. You’re saying, okay, the chart tells me who I am, so it’ll tell me why I’m having this problem. And the truth is that it can give you a lot of insight. It’ll give you insight beyond your wildest dreams. But answers, usually what I find is that it puts people in their head more then they’re not listening to their sacral. They’re not following their strategy. They’re.
They’re not following their authority. They’re not really feeling into anything. So they’re like giving their power away to the chart. And that’s not what this is about. Human design is about putting the power back in your body. Human design is about opening you up to a new way of doing things into A new way of thinking and operating in life. So sometimes the first step is to stop looking for answers and to start looking for insight. Because what the chart will do is if you’re looking for insight, you will never go hungry a day in your life, you will always have more inspiration than you know what to do with and what that does.
When you look for insight and you’re looking for inspiration and you’re looking at the chart for, like, pathways into yourself, into deeply understanding yourself, that’s how you get to master yourself. That is how you master yourself. Not from a way of, like, making sure you do everything right from this moment on, but to truly understand why you do the things you do, how to unwind some of those shadow patterns that you have and just deeply understanding yourself, having this deep personal connection to yourself and how you operate and what’s true for you. What are your gifts hiding under those shadows? If you can get curious about them instead of feeling like they need to deliver on a result or to help you fix a situation in the moment, you’ll start to see that every day is new insights. That’s what planting the seeds are.
When you’re looking for insight, you will have seeds of inspiration planted within you. Where you’re going about your day, and you’re watching and you are operating and you’re working and you’re with your family, and there’s going to be little ahas all throughout your day, all throughout your life. It’s like everything starts to open up in a new way. You start to see yourself and see everyone else in a different way, and the dots start to connect and you start to see why you are where you are, why you are, who you are, and how to open up into, like, the next level of who you are. That becomes clear when you look for insight over answers. Okay, so that’s my first tip with Human Design. My second tip kind of goes hand in hand with this.
It’s not something you do, but it’s something that you surrender to. And it’s very much aligned with what we talked about. The second tip is to have patience with yourself, have patience with the process. Everybody comes in from a different place, right? We all come in, you might be looking at somebody else’s success, and you hear that they were able to turn their life around in a year, or they were able to make this much money in a year or in two years or whatever it is. And you’re like, I’ve been doing this four years and I’m way behind. Like, why isn’t it happening for me. We all come into the game with a different hand, and some of us have a more difficult hand to work with, and that’s okay.
But be patient with yourself, with the process of working with your design and getting to know who you are and really becoming comfortable. Because embodiment is something that can happen very quickly, but what causes it to take more time is pushing. The watch. Pot never boils. That’s exactly what we’re talking about here. Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? We’ve all been in the car with a kid yelling, are we there yet? Or we’ve been that kid. Are we there yet? And it just feels like it takes forever because they’re clocking every second. If you’re doing that with design, it will feel like it takes forever.
And when it feels like it takes forever and then you get disappointed, and then you’re not paying attention, and then you’re not following it anymore, which we go back into our mental process behind it. How long is this going to take? When is it going to be over? When am I going to be there? With any type of personal growth, putting timing on it always screws it up. Money, mindset, all of these things, I’m going to make this much money by this date. The date is what screws it up. The money can happen much faster, or it can take much longer. The minute we let go of the hard deadline, the that we set for ourselves, that’s the minute that our energy opens up. And human design is a system that requires your openness. It requires your patience.
It requires you to surrender to the system. So those are the two areas that I would tell people, because this transcends type, this transcends profile, this transcends all of the pieces of the chart that. My advice then is the same for a projector, for a reflector, for a manifesting generator. Now, the way that patience shows up for you, the way you have to be patient, that will be dictated by your type, by your authority, by the rest of your chart, it’ll tell you more about the detail of what you have to surrender to. But if I were giving that generic advice of what are the two most important things for you to focus on, or the things that I wish people would get sooner in this process? Because what happens when I see clients who finally let go, who finally stop forcing it?
It’s like magic. It’s like they just feel like, oh, my God, it’s all happening. Oh, my God, I see it. Oh, my God. And because I see this happen all the time as well. The answer isn’t always what you need. Sometimes we’re not ready for the answer. And this is where patience and looking for insight go hand in hand. I have clients that I have told in Business by Design. When you join the third tier, you get a private reading with me, you get a strategy call, you get these one one sessions with me. So I sit down with you right at the very beginning of your time in Business by Design and I do a business reading where I take you through your whole chart and I take you through all your business activations, your whole authority matrix, everything.
I take you through the whole thing and I take what I know about your business and I try putting them together as much as I can. I try to connect those dots for you, to push you past the hard growing pains in the beginning. The goal with that is so that people aren’t stuck studying their design and not moving on their business. We call it the fast track is what the third tier is called. We’re literally fast tracking you past these parts where some people can get stuck for months. So that’s the inspiration behind them. And I’ll sit down in that business reading and I will take them through their chart and I will give them the answers and they won’t take action on them. And I see this over and over again.
I have clients where I’m like, they come to me with an aha. They come to me with something later on, you know, it might be six, seven months later sometimes. And they come to me and they’re like, so I’m going to do this and I’m going to start these meetups and I’m going to start this community and I’m going to start to shift some of these things in my messaging and it’s going to be more about this. And I’ll say, you know, I think that’s a great idea. I think I told you that in like week two of the program. But I’m so happy you’re here. And that’s not me. I just like to point these things out because it’s not about me telling them I told you so. Although I lovingly say that sometimes.
But I’m really, what I’m trying to let them and the rest of the group know is sometimes it isn’t as easy as knowing sometimes we’re not ready to take action and move in a different direction just because we know that’s where we’re supposed to go. Sometimes we need to catch up with the answer. So I have these clients that are four lines. And you know that I’ve seen this sort of path for. They weren’t ready to walk that path yet. And that’s fine. But this is why patience is so important. Because if you’re not patient, then you think it’s not working. And if you think it’s not working, you might quit. And then you quit before you get ready for the path, and then you’re stuck again. We’re talking about something really big, like, you know, living your purpose.
I’m not saying that it should be hard, but the idea that we just read something in a book or we sit down with someone for one hour reading, and they break it down for us and we’re like, okay, good. Got my direction, know exactly where I’m going, live in my purpose. Now there’s more work involved. All things in life take a certain level of commitment to really see them flourish. And sometimes our commitment is a commitment of our energy and our time. Sometimes it’s a commitment us in the form of surrendering to this and to doing the work of deconditioning all the parts, all the layers that are keeping us from running with that answers. Some people I have where I give them the business reading and they’re like, oh, my God, that was the permission I needed. Done, and they’re off. That’s great.
A lot of those people have already peeled back a lot of their layers. They’ve already worked through their stuff and they are ready to take action. But you know what’s interesting about those people, they have the patience too. They are very into doing the work. They show up as these beautiful, open, curious students of themselves. So they get the answer. They can run with it, but they’re also, like, diving into their design and having so much fun with learning about themselves and deepening their connection with who they are and what they are here for. It’s beautiful. The people I see struggle with this are the ones that want answer now that need everything to turn on a dime. They expect human design to be a silver bullet that’s going to change their life overnight.
And usually it’s because they’re in some kind of survival mode, which I have a lot of compassion for because I’ve been there myself. I need this to happen, and I need it to happen now because, you know, I need the money. I need this to get going, and I need it to happen now. I got bills to pay. Been there. I understand that. I have a lot of empathy for that. But I also understand because I’ve been there that forcing and pushing didn’t help, that I could get things done. I didn’t allow myself to get in my own way in those situations. But I didn’t expect it all to turn on a dime. I showed up and I did the work and sometimes the work took longer than I had hoped. That’s also why I’m here now.
It’s also why I’m here now, talking about having an aligned and profitable business. A business that supports me and that feels so wholly and completely mine and a reflection of who I am. And every day, because I’m a student of myself in a way that I’m just curious about everything, I grow and expand into this bigger version of myself every day.
