Hello and welcome to Unshakeable with Human Design. I’m your host, Nicole Laino. And it’s just us today, and we’re going to talk today about reading charts about what it really means to read a Human Design Chart and why most people who learn human design actually still can’t do it. And I don’t mean that as a slight. I’m not ragging on anybody. I’m saying it because I remember what that was like, that I took a Human Design certification. And the amount of time that it took me to learn really what I was looking at, it was just I had to really develop this process myself because I took several certifications, I’ve taken several courses. I have, like, I have studied so much, and nobody really taught me how to do this.
Like, and I’m going to break down a little bit of what I do and what my process is and what I see here. But this, it’s a fundamental problem with the way that we teach human design. And I want to kind of call it out here and just. So if you’re one of those people, if you’re either thinking about becoming Human Design certified, you’re looking to understand it for yourself, where you’re like, I’ve been digesting all of this information because this is a lot of people, right? I’m digesting all of this information. I’m memorizing. I am like, I am this wealth of knowledge about human design as a concept and as a knowledge base, but as a system, I really don’t know how to use it.
And it’s really that will hinder your progress with it, and you certainly won’t be able to teach it. So it’ll be a problem for you if it’s just for you, but it’ll also be a problem for you, especially if you are looking to help people with this. If you looked to get certified in human design so that you could help guide people, whether that be formally like a coach or you want to do readings or informally like with your children, and maybe it’s with your team at work or you want to do it just with the people in your life, like, whatever it is. So many people have taken course after course, and they know type they know profile, they know all the lines. They know what planets mean. They have all of that stuff.
But as far as, like, how you bring that all together is that’s a bit elusive. So I’m going to break down kind of the main difference that I learned or that I kind of fell into through my process of really digesting every bit of information I could get my hands on and what that process was like. And then finally coming to a point where I was like, oh, this is how I actually start to really get it. So this episode is going to be about how you get it, right? I’m not going to be telling you what anything means. I’m going to be talking to you more about, like, how you actually get this information to go from an information just like a dictionary to something that’s actually usable.
Where this is like a talent that you have, where this is an actual framework that you use with people and you understand how to do that beyond just telling them. Because I hear people do this all the time. Oh, well, you’re here to respond. But they don’t really get what they’re looking at when they’re looking at a chart. But it was too late to change it. So here we are. But now we move forward. Now we move on. Okay, so let’s talk about this. So it all comes down to really, this one fundamental thing. There’s knowing human design, and then there’s actually seeing a chart, cataloging features, and just being like, you have a this. So that means that to actually reading a person and seeing what their life is going to be like, seeing how their energy moves, seeing where that might be an issue. And there are many layers to this.
Like, when I work with people and I do a human design reading, I’m not just jumping in. I’ve trained myself to look at a chart and see the person, but I also ask them questions. I also ask them questions before we do a reading. I ask very specific questions that, you know, depending on how they answer them. Some people just want to book the reading, so they answer the questions very quickly, and they don’t give a lot of detail.
But I start the reading by asking them questions again because I want to understand what they’re going through, because that will help me interpret the chart in a way that is beneficial to them, that is very current to their needs in the moment, versus me just telling them that they’re a generator and they’re here to respond, and it means that they’re here to be lit up. All very important. But what’s more important is for me to understand a little bit more about them so I can start to marry the human with the chart that I see in front of me. Most human design courses, certifications are information based. They are information based. And so they’re training you to more recall information, not recognize patterns. And this is a huge, like, structural gap that there is. Right. I’m not digging at any teacher.
I’m not ragging on anybody. But this is a problem because it’s the patterns that you are looking for. The patterns are what you help people change. There are certain tendencies and patterns and certain things underlying the chart that are going to allow you to give somebody. It’s the difference between giving somebody a reading where they walk away being like, that was interesting. Oh, cool. And another reading where they’re like, wow, you like, changed my life with this reading. Or where they cry and they say they feel so seen. Because you’re not just telling them what’s there. You’re telling them what I bet your life has been like. What you may have experienced were these things. And that is the defining factor between it and that’s often not covered in a lot of the Teaching that’s out there. So what does this all mean, right?
This is we stop asking the question of what do each of these components on the chart mean? Instead, we start asking, what is the chart pointing to? What is the chart saying to us? Charts speak. And if you don’t know how to speak the language of the chart to understand what’s happening there, you know, it’s like you can know how all of the pieces on a chess board move, right? You can know that I can take two steps forward on any pawn on its first move, and then they move one and they move in a straight line only, and then you can know those rules. But it doesn’t make you a great chess player. There’s a strategy underneath it that’s telling you there’s a game underneath the game. And that’s very true of human design. Human design.
So when I look at a chart, I am always asking, you know, what was this person’s life probably like when they were a child? What did they kind of walk in with? What were the things that they probably dealt with? What are the things that probably caused issues for them or where they may have gotten stuck? You can tell that maybe from some of the characteristics. So you might be able to tell that somebody with an open G center might have trouble knowing their direction in life or feeling held by that or feeling sure of something like that. Or maybe they know what it was like to. Or they’ve struggled to potentially be able to nail down their identity in this life. Identity work might have been really difficult for them.
That’s a valid piece of information to give somebody, but to see it in the greater context of the whole chart, to understand where they might have a problem. Like, when I look at a chart, I’m looking at how the energy flows. And that wasn’t something that I learned to do until several years into my own personal training. Because we did a recorded reading in my certification, that was it. I never talked to anybody. I recorded a reading completely on my own, sent it in. They said, that was good, you’re certified. All done. That’s it. I never really talked anyone. I never got any feedback. I never really got any guidance on how do we read a chart. And it’s funny. I have a lot of people who are human design certified in my program in business by design, for sure.
Some people in the Human Design Authority Lab, some people in Align Brand Builder. I’ve done readings for people who have gotten human design certifications. And what’s so interesting to me is that a lot of people Will not feel comfortable actually using it. They don’t feel ready to give readings, or they’ll give readings, but they’re not. Like, they won’t market them. They’ll only do it if people come to them. Or they’ll do it for friends, and they’ll do it for family. And it starts there. That’s totally fine. But they don’t feel confident to go out and do this, or they don’t feel confident to coach people through their human design. And that’s doing everybody a disservice. You’re not getting any better because you’re not using it. And you’re not using a tool that could truly help somebody.
And the gap there is because nobody really taught you how you feel like you need to prepare. Like, for every reading, you’ve got to write down what everything means so you don’t forget something. And I know this because I did this in the beginning. I used to take. I would take, like, hours to prepare for a reading. So. Because I was so scared that they would ask a question I didn’t know the answer to. And now, of course, I very rarely am going to get asked a question that I don’t have answer to other than why are these centers colored the colors that they are on a traditional human design chart? Still can’t answer that question. Looked everywhere. Don’t know. If you know, please DM me and tell me why is the G center yellow and sacral is brown?
I have tried to think through that logically in every sort of way. Can’t really come up with it. If you know the answer, please tell. But outside of that, I pretty much know all the answers. But the key is I’m not really giving people any of that anymore. I’m talking about how the energy flows in their chart. And I do that through some key elements in the chart. I do that through. I’m looking at their channels. I’m looking at how the energy flows from one center to the other. I’m noticing what that flow looks like. I’m noticing what these themes are around it. And that tells me a lot. A big picture about who they are and what they are here for. The incarnation cross is leading them somewhere. Okay, how are they getting there? How are they?
What is the role that they’re here to play? How is that playing out for them? What problems may they have had on their journey so far? Where are they still having problems? That’s why I talk to people about it, because I did a reading recently where they didn’t tell me until the end that they were actually very focused on love and partnership and looking for a relationship. And I didn’t know that or I would have brought that up in the reading more. And it gives context to the chart. The human life gives context to that chart because it could be interpreted so many different ways. If somebody is having a particular problem, I’m looking for that roadblock. I’m looking for how the chart may help guide them to a smoother path. So every chart is so different.
So I think that’s why a lot of people don’t teach reading charts, because it’s so difficult to generalize it. Because every chart is wildly different from the last one. Even if you think it looks the same, it’s so different. And those differences come in these different themes. So somebody might have. They might have the same centers defined, but one’s a triple split and one is a single definition. That’s a very different expression of how those people are going to have a. In experience in life. I can almost guarantee that the triple split is going to have a little bit more of a difficult time processing and moving forward in a straight line. So the way that we guide these people is to give them ways to understand and work with the aspects that they have. And we ask questions.
We don’t just say, this is what you have. We ask questions and we work with them to. I would say my readings are very interactive because of that. I don’t just. I always say, it’s not the Nicole show. I’m not here to just talk to you and talk at you. I’m here to have a conversation and for this to be a back and forth so that I’m giving you the tools that you need to move forward from here. Because that’s the goal, right? To move forward in greater alignment and greater ease. So all of this to say that seeing a chart is seeing, like, the life that somebody is leading through this chart. The chart wants to operate a certain way. Every chart has a certain expression to it. Every chart has a mission.
And if you can’t see that mission, then you’re just telling people things that they probably heard in every other reading. This is how when people sit down with me and they do a reading and they’re like, I’ve had readings before and it was nothing like that. This was so eye opening. I’ve had people cry because they feel so seen and they feel so moved. And then I can take that. You know, in business, by design, we start with business readings for everybody. So those business readings I sit in those readings and I give them the reading, and then it’s like, okay, well, now I know how I’m guiding you. I give you. I kick you off with telling you that this is how we’ll be guiding you. This is how we’re working. This is the way you operate.
These are the things we’re focused on. And then in our coaching calls, I’m constantly bringing them back to that. So by the time we’re done with a year, this is their new habit. They’re operating correctly. And this is why people get real results with the way that I coach with this. This is the difference between having something like human design be like, a parlor trick and, like a cool thing and actually being able to help somebody guide their life through it. It’s a very big difference. So this is. I wanted to do an episode on this because I know that there are so many people who are struggling with, okay, I got certified, but now what do I do? I took a course, but I don’t feel equipped.
I encourage you to learn how the chart speaks, learn how the chart moves, how energy moves through it, how to guide people with this and, you know, practice.
