Is a Human Design Certification Right for You? What You Need to Know First

Hello, and welcome to Unshakeable with Human Design. I’m your host, Nicole Laino. Now, some of you may have heard that I launched my human design certification, the Integrated Human Design certification, just a couple of weeks ago. And we are going to start on June 1st with our first cohort. So I’m very excited about this, and I called it Integrated Human Design because that’s really what we’re doing. We are integrating it. We aren’t just, you know, I always say that information is not how we learn. Integration is how we learn. 


And that’s the difference between this certification and many others. In fact, I haven’t been able to find any that do what we are going to be doing in this certification. So in this episode, this is really going to be very much about, like, you know, do you need a certification? And is this one right for you? But even if you aren’t looking to get certified, if you are just interested in human design, I still think that this is a worthwhile episode for you because I’m going to talk about the differences between the way that the philosophy behind human design. What are those deeper layers that we need to get to? So this is still very valuable, even if you are just looking to use human design for yourself and you want to go deeper with it. 


And I’m going to break down, you know, what I really think is the core benefit of human design that nobody really talks about enough. I don’t really hear this very much. And I think that it’s at the core, and I think it’s at the core of why some human design readings and courses and things like that, you know, you’re left lacking. You know, you’re left wanting. When you take them or when you experience them, they don’t quite deliver on what you had hoped for. And what’s the difference between how do I get. You know, I did a reading the other day for somebody, and she was so moved by the whole thing, it kind of blew her whole mind about how she sees herself. And that’s because I could really see her underneath in that chart. 


And when we just talk about and we just teach and just take in the elements of human design, this is why when you tell someone they’re A projector. Not everybody’s happy about that. It’s. Are you telling them what’s important for them to know so they can know themselves better? That’s where we need to get to. And a lot of people don’t have the tools to do that because it wasn’t taught to them that way. They were just taught the mechanics. They were just taught this, like, masculine process of all of these pieces fit together, right? So it’s type plus strategy plus centers, defined, minus centers, undefined. You know, whatever that formula is. But the truth is that we are greater than the sum of our parts. 


There is a story that every chart tells, and if you can’t read that story and you don’t really understand what that is, then when someone sits across from you’re excited, but you end up just sort of going through, you know, what a head center is? This is what this means. This is what that means. And quite frankly, they could have gotten that from a book, and they don’t really have anything that gave them real insight into how they work, into who they are, and into what they can see for themselves. So that’s what I want to do in this episode. I want to break down how I see the chart, and I want to break down how what I think that deep benefit is that most people aren’t talking about. I believe it gets glossed over. We talk about how decisions are made. 


We talk about how human design can help you make better decisions. We can talk about finding your gifts. A lot of people will talk about that. But there is a layer deeper than that nobody really talks about. And that’s what I want to get to in this episode. Okay, so if you are interested in the certification, if you want to know more about my certification, the Integrated Human Design certification, which I’ve been asked for years to make, and I didn’t make it before because I truly didn’t feel ready. I didn’t want to contribute to something that I consider to be a really big problem in this industry, which is that people, before they have mastery of something, start teaching other people how to do it. And felt like I had personal mastery over this for quite some time. 


I also recognized how much better I was getting, the more time I spent. And it was like, I want to make sure that I’m really at my depth here. When I do decide to transfer what I know, can I really teach somebody to see what I see? And that’s a tall order. Can I teach you what a G center is? Sure. I do that. I do that in workshops all the time. I do that in all sorts of things. And I kept asking myself, well, how is this going to be different than the workshops that I teach? It’s this piece that I’m going to talk about in this episode, this deeper piece, which is the lens that we’re traveling through inside this certification. It’s. We’re taking you on a journey through the chart in a different way than I see anybody else doing it. 


And we are actually giving you practical application. We are giving you sessions with me and the group to be utilizing this. Not in bullshit breakout rooms. Not in. Sorry, but they’re silly sometimes. Not in bullshit breakout rooms. Not, you know, me just teaching a class in front of you and you answer some questions. No. Every single person being asked specific questions and being, you know, given charts to read right there to see what we’re seeing, to integrate what you learned and actually have it come out of your mouth so that you have it in your body when you go to sit across from someone, it will change how you see every single person that you ever encounter. It’ll change how you see the world and it’ll change how you see yourself.

And I’ve sat down with somebody on a Clarity call and they told me that they’ve been through all four levels of a really well known certification in human design and they still don’t feel like they have full mastery of it. There was no practical application of the knowledge in that certification. And quite frankly, I was shocked because this is a very well known certification. They certify a lot of people. And I couldn’t believe that even at the higher levels of it that there was no real practical. There were like Q&As and things like that, but no real like supervised practical application of the knowledge where you get real time feedback of what you’re seeing. 


Because you’ll never know if you’re any good at it unless you have that feedback, then you’re only sitting across from clients who don’t know anything, so they’re not going to be able to give you that feedback. All you’ll know is that they don’t come back to you for anything else. Or they say, that’s really great, and then they move on, or they look confused, and they never go back to human design because they think it’s just like a parlor trick or something. And that’s a shame, because human design has the ability, has the power to change people’s lives. And I know that because I’ve seen it, because I’ve done it. It’s changed my life, but it’s also changed the lives of so many of my clients. 


I’ve inspired a lot of people to get certifications in human design because they’ve been in BBD with me. They’ve been so transformed by it. I didn’t offer a certification at the time, so they went elsewhere and went with somebody else. I had one client, she and I met, and she told me, she’s like, I got the depth from you. But I felt like I needed to get that certification to just feel like I had a connection to this, that I really understood everything that I had, all that I needed. She was like, I got the depth from you. And I was like, oh, well, thank you. This is a core problem, though, when people don’t really have the true mastery over where they can see somebody else. It’s very difficult. 


If you are a person of integrity, and the people who end up in my world typically are. These are not the people who I see some other. You know, and it’s funny, when you’re in the coaching business and you see people who have worked with different mentors, and there are certain mentors that kind of churn out people that are great at selling, but maybe not so great at delivering, there is a level of integrity that. A low threshold, we’ll call it that, in some of these programs where they attract people who are able to bypass this sense of conscience or real integrity. And they’re just like, if, you know, I will sell you anything, I. I will charge you so much money because I know how to play the game. And that’s not the people who end up in my world. 


I get the people who are on the opposite side of things where they’re like, I’m really good at what I do, but I can’t sell it because I’m so afraid that, what if I don’t have the answer to somebody’s question? And they’re paying me and then I feel like I failed them. Those are the people that I get. I get more of the heart centered people and my job is to help boost them up and help them find that confidence so they can go out and sell. But here’s the other thing that sits between these two aspects is a lot of times people can’t sell. And it doesn’t have to be human design, but we’ll talk about it in the context of human design. But this could be anything. This is coaching or, you know, whatever it is that you sell. 


If you don’t truly feel that you have mastery over it, if you really don’t feel confident in it, then integrity will get in your way of being able to sell it. And that will come from two places. One way it’s going to come from is that you don’t really understand what the selling points are because you don’t have a deep enough knowledge of it. You can’t really tell people what the transformation is because you haven’t really worked with it enough to know beyond the things that everybody else is saying, right? You either haven’t had your own transformation with it, which is part of it, or you haven’t been able to get anybody else a transformation. You don’t really see what’s happening. So you end up just saying things like, yes, it’ll help you make better decisions in your life. 


And I look at people’s websites and I look at their copy and I look at their, you know, when they’re selling things on their sales page with human design and I see it and it’s just like, make better decisions in your life, live in alignment. And some of that is copywriting where it’s, you know, we’re not getting specific enough about the transformation that we offer people. But a lot of it is just there’s something missing in the way that you see your work. You know, okay, I can make better decisions. Why? How does that help me? How does that change me? And when I press people on that, they can’t really deliver me answer. And that to me says that there’s maybe some more work to do in connecting you to this work. 


Because I could talk about it for days, I could tell you all the benefits of human design. I could tell you why decision making affects you in every aspect of your life. I can tell you. And really what it comes down to is the mind. The mind is currently. And this is one of the big transformations of human design. This is so fundamental and I don’t Think people really get it. This is why authority is so important. Authority is not just important because it’s your authority. Yes. And it’s important because we’re going into the 2027 change and now where we have outsourced authority, we’ve outsourced it to governments, we have felt safe, you know, oh, they’ll take care of it. I don’t have to make that decision. I don’t have to trust over there. 


I have trust in all of these things to keep me safe. But now we’re in this barrage of everybody has a platform, everybody has a microphone, everybody has a TV stat on Instagram or whatever platform they choose. So how do we know what’s right for us and what’s not? How do we know what advice is good for us and what’s not? You know, until you’ve had so much experience with it, you don’t really get it. That this human design, the reason it takes you out of all of that mess and all of that conditioning, because it is conditioning. If it doesn’t come from you, it’s coming from the outside world. It’s outer authority. Right? You are grasping at outer authority. You are. The authority isn’t coming from you. It’s coming from the outside world. 


When it’s coming from the outside world, then you’re influenced by the outside world. And now the outside world is run by different things. So we are being challenged now as human beings. You know, went through the cross of planning for the last 400 years so we would learn how to build institutions, so we would learn how to grow, so we would learn how to really build things. Societies take care of each other. Hopefully we don’t lose those lessons. Hopefully they’re still existing in some of us. Some of us carry the cross of planning in our design. So that’s hopefully all of you, if you’re really in alignment with yourselves, with who you are, truly that you don’t get swept up in all this stuff and forget who you are. Because that’s your job is you’re supposed to be an ambassador for these things. 


You are meant to carry this energy forward. Right? Well, you can’t do that if you’re conditioned by the outside world and it’s changing and now it’s going to give you a whole different set of conditioning circumstances. We need you to be the same. We need you to be you. That’s what’s so powerful, the outer authority, the rest of the world being your authority, looking to the outside world for the answers, allowing that to Guide you? No, that’s data. That’s interesting. It is not how you make decisions. It’s why we take the power away from the mind. That’s what is so powerful about human design. We’re taking that Outer Authority and we’re saying, nope, because the mind is the outer Authority. The mind is going to attach to everything in the outside world. The mind is going to say, well, let me read this book. 


Let me listen to this person. Let me check the news. Let me see what the President is saying. Let me hear what this is going. What’s happening over here? Let me see what’s happening in our schools. It’s going to be this. And all of that’s feeling very chaotic right now, isn’t it? How do we quiet that? You take the power away from the mind. The mind is not. That’s not its job to make decisions. Its job is to come up with ideas and insights and opinions and all of these great things. The Authority’s job in your inner authority. Your inner authority guides you to what’s right for you. To hell with what the outside world is saying. So for all the Phoenixes out there, for all the people who carry the Cross of the Sleeping Phoenix, I get asked all the time. 


They’re like, what does it mean for me if we’re going into this phase of the Cross of the Sleeping Phoenix, and I’m a Phoenix, what does that mean? Well, it means I hope you’re in alignment. I hope you’re following your alignment and your authority and not the outside worlds. Because again, you can be an example of what that looks like. You have great potential in this, just like the rest of us do. You’re just going to be. You know, I could go on for days about what this means for you. The 55th gate under pressure, the 59th gate under pressure. You know, changing, mutating. It probably can feel very chaotic in you, which would make you want to look to the outside world for stability more. 


The goal for you is with all of that change that’s happening within you, feeling the pressure, feeling the coming change that aligns with your own design, it’s going to be really important for you to stabilize from the inside. I call this show unshakable with human design. This is why be rooted in you, not in the outside world. Be rooted from your own core, from what’s true for you. That’s where real power comes from. That’s the first fundamental change. Right? But that wasn’t even the Deep Benefit that I was going to talk about. That’s the process. But you can only do that if you’re really teaching somebody to see themselves through this system. And in order to do that, you have to be able to see them through the system. 


I did a business reading for one of my BBD clients the other day, and she teaches human design. I have a lot of people who teach human design who are certified, who have gone through their own trainings with this. She knows her strategy and authority. She knows her gifts. So why is she even working with me? And what could she possibly get out of a reading with me? Well, one, I do think it always helps for us to have someone reflecting back some things. Because while we are learning to be our own authority, while we are learning to trust what is correct for us, sometimes it can feel almost egotistical, looking at our own gifts and saying, like, yep, I have that. 


But when someone else tells you something that you’ve already known deep down, but maybe you couldn’t admit to yourself, or maybe because you were made to feel like you were too much or too big for your family to palette or your friend group or the kids you went to school with or whatever it was that you were taught to shrink, and your chart says that you’re big, you might see that and be like, well, that’s just what I want to see. Am I really seeing the right thing? Is that really true? And that’s where someone else can help. When you go to a reader, when you go to somebody who can coach you to not only seeing that, but being able to navigate life through this paradigm versus the one that you grew up with. That’s what deconditioning is, babe. That’s it. 


Living in alignment with what is true for you versus the conditioning of the circumstances that you have faced up until this point. That’s what deconditioning is. Now, how we do that, you know, all of this, it’s an art. It’s not a total science, which is how I think RA would have explained it, that it’s the science of differentiation, that it’s this mechanical process. And I do think that at its heart, it is. It’s a mechanical process, and it’s telling you how your mechanics work as an individual. So this is how you make decisions. This is how you are correct. This is how you end up on your path of your purpose, right? But we’re humans. And even though we might mean to follow that process, that might be difficult for us. So the process of deconditioning takes some time. 


It’s why they say it’s Seven years. Because, you know, cellular turnover takes that long. You know, if you started today and you lived in alignment from today onward, in seven years, there wouldn’t be a cell in your body that remembered how you were yesterday. That’s how it works. How can we make that go faster? Well, we can do inner work so that we are less attached to those circumstances and emotional triggers from the past that keep us aligned with the patterns of the past. So the way that I see it is that the number one benefit of human design, the life changing thing about it, is it gives you a new lens to look at yourself through, a new way of operating, through feeling, not through thinking. So what do I mean by it gives you a new lens to look at yourself through? 


I mean, that view that you have of yourself based on how people made you feel when you grew up, how you thought about yourself, your failures, your successes, your experience, your lack of experience. And instead, it gives you this unbiased view of your potential. And this is why I don’t just teach human design. I teach the gene keys as well. I work with the gene keys as well. I think that you need both. I think human design, you quickly hit a wall with it because it will feel like things will just always be hard. This will always be a bad thing. I do think that in his effort to shock people, Ra ended up just kind of making it feel hopeless for people, myself included. 


I don’t think I read a positive thing about anything in my design when I first found it and I just read his stuff, it was so defeating. Everything from my cross to my conscious son, to being a manifesting generator who’s emotional, to being a 5:1. Oh, my God. It was just like, this is gonna suck and this is gonna suck. And oh, I feel bad for these poor individuals. That felt like how he started every single thing. So that lens that I looked at myself through that pure human design, traditional teaching was not a positive lens. It actually reinforced all of the things that scared me the most, all of the things that I didn’t like about myself. And then I found Gene Keys and realized that those were just shadow states of those things, that there were gifts that were associated with them. 


And Ra just kind of left those out. And, you know, I get it. He had his way, and everybody has their way. I have mine. And that’s why I think that the evolution of these teachings, that other voices getting added to the conversation and teaching through the lens of teaching it. In the 90s, people had different values. We lived in a different world in the 90s. So if you learned human design in the 90s and you were dealing with people, you know, watching 12 channels on the television versus what we have today, a 24 hour news cycle, social media, cell phones in our pockets, it’s a complet. Completely different world. So the challenges change. Life evolves, things change. We are now on the precipice of 2027. This is a very different point of view than back then. 


Now some people would say, well, the circumstances shouldn’t change anything. They change the people that you are trying to wake up. Life now is far more complicated than it was back then. I think that there are, you know, obviously there are advancements that make it easier and better and all of these things, but then there are also things that make it a whole lot more challenging. So that’s why I think new voices being added to this that are integrity, that are planning to train people to meet the moment, I think is a good thing. And it’s why I decided to do this, because I want to give other people the ability to help people wake up. Because remember, the Phoenix is asleep. All Phoenixes are asleep. Because that’s the other thing. 


You know, when people ask me, I’m a Phoenix, what do I what does this mean for me? Well, it means you better wake up. I hope you wake up. Because if you’re asleep, you’re really going to be asleep. I hope you wake up. But now the collective is going to have to wake up. And I do believe in, with, at the risk of sounding corny and potentially self aggrandizing here, but I do think that those of us who teach this, we play a potentially a beautiful and important role in this transition to help usher people in from what we’ve always been to what we are becoming, which is different from this old world to the new world. I do see this as a calling. 


And if you have that calling, it’s a shame to join something and think you’re getting one thing and then come out the other side and say, well, I felt like I was following my calling, but I still feel like I don’t know enough. I don’t know how to use this. I can’t get the transformation for people that I set out to. And that’s what we’re solving. With the Integrated Human Design certification. I want to pass on to others the ability to transform people. Not from giving them advice, not from telling them what to do, but from. And this is harder. It is harder to do this because people will want you to tell them they Will want you to be the outer authority for them. 


And it takes a lot to both help them, but also teach them to help themselves, to give them their process the whole time and to be able to point out to them to not just abdicate and say like, oh, well, it’s like the people that say like well, what is your intuition telling you? No, we’re not doing that. Because that can feel like a cop out a lot of times, like, oh, I hired you and you just keep telling me to like tune into my intuition. No, you have to draw them back to a process that you can help articulate for them so that they understand it, so that they can actually do it. 


You have to be able to see because they may not come to you with a question, they might come to you with something that is completely not seeming like a human design problem. But you need to be able to hear their, you know, the fact that they are ignoring their sacral response. Or you need to be able to hear the Line 5 projections in the story that they’re telling. And you need to draw them back to the aspect of them. So you’re training them to see themselves through the lens of their own human design. I can’t even explain to you the level of a gift it feels like to be able to do that for people because it truly does change them. 


In that business reading with my client, you know, they get this big long report where I kind of give them the whole story of them and that’s the underlying story that is not just keynotes, although it starts with those. But to be able to weave a story about like what you’re here for, to see her feel so validated in what she’s here for and what has felt right for her. And now in business by Design, we get to work together for a year, so I get to guide her through that and help her in whatever way she needs from me to her process. And it’s the most exciting thing in the world to be able to do that for people. You could do it for the people that are close to you. I do this for my family. 


I do this sometimes without them knowing. Because when you get good at this, you don’t have to say, well, you’re a projector, so this means that’s information, it’s not integration. If you can go beyond information, then you can guide somebody without them knowing you’re doing it. And that’s not a manipulative thing. You’re just asking people the right questions. Knowing that my husband is a self projected projector I’m not saying that to him all the time. I’m not like, well, you’re a self projector, so what you need to do? I just tell him, I’d be like, well, why don’t you talk it out to me? Why don’t you tell me what you have going on? What are your thoughts on this? And then I ask him pointed questions that are in alignment with his specific design. 


Sometimes, of course, I will offer something from his unique design, telling me like, well, you’re an innovator. I say that instead of saying that he’s a three line. Well, you’re an innovator. So if you’re choosing between two career paths, which one feels better to you? Is it the one where you’re managing people or is it the one where you’re building stuff? And you are. Every day you wake up and you think about like, what’s a cool thing that I could build or a new way that I could think about this? And to him he’s like, oh, the second one, it’s his design. I know this. And I’m not guiding him anywhere. I’m asking him questions and helping him arrive at the answers that are correct for him in that moment. We can do that when we understand how this really works. 


I guide him back to his process. He needs to soundboard things with me. So I just sit there and let him talk a lot. And that’s something that, like, he doesn’t know that I’m doing that, but it helps and it’s helped him in a million ways. And he does know about human design and he actually does accept it in a lot of ways. I’m just not always telling him that I do it. That’s the beauty of this. You can change people, you can shift people. And the people who are in on it and who do come to you for this transformation, what an amazing partnership that can be. If you are somebody who feels called to guide people, I would really honor that calling, especially now. We are all being called to an individual path. We are all being called to something new. 


Everything about the individual is about new stuff, something we’ve never seen before. And with this world being individual cross, going into an individual cross with Uranus, moving into Gemini about like just the ways that we communicate and the ways that we do things and all of these different changes that are coming that are so out of the norm and so new.
