Episode 355

Hello, and welcome to Unshakeable with Human Design, everybody. I’m your host, Nicole Lano, and we’re here today together, just you and me. It’s just us today. And we’re going to actually, I’m going to give you a list of things that I would do if I were building my business all over again. According in my human design, that’s not how I started.

I did not start with human design. I didn’t know about human design when I started my business and things were a lot harder for me because of that. So I’ll give you a little background on this because maybe you feel this way too. Maybe you’re in this place. So before I found human design, I was in entrepreneurship for probably four years at that point.

And it was a hard four years. I think this is another thing that’s worth mentioning. I think a lot of people feel like they should be further. I’ve been doing this for a long time. I’m still not seeing results. It doesn’t feel like the work that I’m putting in is equal to the results that I’m getting, to the money that’s coming in.

Maybe you’re making money, but a lot of that money is going out the door. It’s all wrapped up in expenses. I understand all of that, and I absolutely understand feeling like it’s been so long that you question maybe whether it’ll happen for you, whether it’ll work. And I certainly know too where you can have a partner who is very supportive, but also looking at you like, how long are we going to do this for?

I was in that boat and it’s not fun, but in me, I knew I was doing the right thing. Like I knew I’m like, I’m almost there if I could just figure this out. And that was both exciting and frustrating all at the same time because it was like, I know it’s right, but it’s like, can I hang on long enough? To be able to see the other end of this, to get to the other side.

So I was, for the longest time in my business, I was capped at like, I would go between 50, 000 then I got was getting to 100, 000 a year, which might sound like a lot, but I did not keep. Most of that money. In fact, some years it was in the red when you got all of the expenses and everything taken into it, like I actually declared in the red in those early years and I would go to do things and I’d have five different coaches in my head that I had hired and paid lots of money to that were all saying different things, telling me to do different things.

These were all people that I respected, all people that I paid lots of money to, all people who had these like massive businesses. So they were really successful. And they were telling me what they would do. Not directly, of course, because I paid tens of thousands of dollars to all of these coaches, you know, varying degrees, but some of them up to 20, 000, 18, 000.

And I never spoke to them once. Not one time, not a hot seat call, nothing, just digital stuff and underling coaches a lot of times. So I paid these high ticket amounts, but I really was not getting support, but they were giving advice to the mass of us. And they would say the same things they would say.

They all said different things to me. One thing they had in common, they would all say one offer. You can have one offer. You should build one offer. You should have one ideal client. You should solve one problem. Now, not all of them said you had to solve one problem, but I did have one coach that hammered that home so badly, it was traumatizing.

And I, honestly, I didn’t know it at the time, but I felt like I was a failure because I’m a manifesting generator and I’m really not meant to do it that way. That was like going against my particular energetic blueprint. Like, it was completely wrong for me. And that advice, That had worked for them on some level, had worked for them.

It was very funny, even though they said, build one thing, they all had multiple things that they sold, but that’s besides the point, but they built their way and they said it should be my way should be their way. I was trying to fit into their mold, and it was devastating, because I felt like a failure, because I couldn’t make it work.

And they made it sound so easy. And they made it sound like, if you just follow the process, Nicole, you’ll get there. I never said my name, because you know, of course, they didn’t know my name. But that was how I heard it. You’ll get there if you just follow the steps. And I felt so frustrated and shame. I felt a lot of shame for not being able to pull it off.

And I’m a smart person. And I was like, how is it that I was totally climbing the corporate ladder on Wall Street at one of the most competitive banks on Wall Street, too? Like, the one that everybody tries to get into. I worked there, and I was really good at what I did there, and I hung with the people who went to Ivy League schools, and I most certainly did not.

I didn’t finish college. And lots of credits, no degree. And I worked right alongside those people. I was promoted. I did so, so well. But here I go, and I’ve got these simple steps that I’m supposed to be able to put together, and I can’t do it. I can’t action them. And it was so frustrating. And human design changed everything because it made me not feel like such a failure.

It was like, It’s not me, it’s the way I’m doing this. Interesting. And that shift was, human design wasn’t the thing that turned me inward. That got me to say, finally, instead of just taking what every expert said as gospel, oh, I paid you, you had this result, okay, well then it must be right for me. It broke that spell.

And instead, got me to look Inside myself. Now, in fairness, I did have a coach who, call him at James Wedmore, who would tell us, the answers are all inside of you. We give you the tools in here, in his program. We give you the tools in this program, but you know, the answers are in you. Find them in you. I just didn’t know how to find them.

I didn’t know where to look for the answers in me. I would be able to connect my intuition at times, but I really felt it was hard. And I didn’t know exactly why, but human design got me to turn around and go, Oh, wait, I can look in here for the answer. I can follow my sacral, gave me a process for actually getting those answers out of myself.

So it was priceless, but it wasn’t all human design though, that took my business to where it is now, because I’m proud to say that. My business has gone from that, like struggling 50 K, not keeping the money, being in the red to being a multiple six figure business now where I keep six figures in profit.

That is something I’m very proud of. I don’t just make the money. I keep the money, which was a huge shift for me. And that was very much mindset shifts and strategic shifts. So, it isn’t all human design, but what human design did do was give me a process to find my own magic, to trust myself, to ground into myself.

And then, when I started using strategies, suddenly I’m pulling old strategies off the wall that I got from those other programs, and I’m like, oh, I can use these. And that’s where my whole method came from. It’s the things that I use. And it’s, really what I teach you to do in my programs. What I teach my clients to do is trust themselves and almost like becoming artists, right?

I give you the studio to play and I give you the tools. I give you the resources and I help you build like a producer in a music studio. I’m not writing the song for you. It’s your song, but I’m here to create the environment and give you the tools and everything that you need, and to be there to support you and help inspire your ideas and pull the ideas out of you so that you can create something beautiful.

Right? So it isn’t all human design. But human design is at the core of everything that I do, because you have to build the business from you, not from somebody else’s mold. You have to learn to trust yourself, or you’re always on shaky ground. You have to know what you offer. You have to know what makes you different.

That’s what will make you sell to somebody effortlessly. Cause you’re being you. I know so many of us say, I want to get paid to be me. Human design is the secret to getting paid to be you, because you become more you than you’ve ever been. So I’m going to break down 10 things that I would focus on.

Honestly, I could have made a longer list, but I really tried to keep this, I challenged myself, to say, if I were starting over, what are the 10 things that I would focus on first? What are the areas, because I know the human design chart is so big, there’s a million strategies out there. What would I focus on?

Okay. And this is what I came up with. So, and they’re actually, there’s like an 11th one because I got a 10 B. So be sure to stay to the end because that’s how you’re really going to see how all of this comes together. Cause they all go together. They all build on each other. So this is a top 10 list of things I would do if I were building my business all over again, according to my human design and I wanted to be aligned.

And I want it to be profitable. These two things matter. Alignment is not everything. And if you’re just chasing profit, it’s soulless and you leave yourself out of the business and you leave yourself out of the marketing and you’re not growing. So your bank account isn’t growing. They are interlinked.

They are not separate entities. You and your business become one. The strategy, you’re the operator of that strategy. Okay. So let’s break this down. So the first thing that I would do is, and I know this is going to sound like duh, but strategy and authority. And I know like, of course, strategy and authority, but so many people I talk to, 90 percent of the people that I talk to that say that they are following their design, when I ask them about their strategy and authority, they are absolutely not following it.

So, what I would do is not just strategy and authority, but I would get really, really intimate and comfortable understanding my signature and not self theme of my type. What will this do? This is going to increase your productivity. You are going to be able to do more in less time, which is going to make you feel successful, which is also going to increase the strength of your aura, because that’s what human design is doing, which is going to increase your magnetism.

You will start showing up differently. You will start getting different results just by virtue of this first step. This will start to change you and it will change the results that you’re getting. So signature and not self theme to a manifesting generator. My signature theme is satisfaction slash peace because of the manifester part of me.

And then my not self theme is frustration slash anger. And what I’m doing there is I’m using those as green lights and red lights. When I am feeling satisfied. and things are flowing. I’m in the right place. I’m doing the right things. When I am frustrated or feeling stuck, that is my sign to stop and do something else.

When I learned that, and you have to do things that don’t make sense. I’m on a deadline. I have this thing to do. I’ve got to get this presentation done. I hate making presentations, by the way. I hate doing them. I love giving them. I hate Making them. I don’t enjoy it. It’s not my favorite thing to do, but when I’m sitting down and I’m trying to do it, I can feel like when I’m on that deadline, the pressure and it’s just not coming.

I can’t sit there and push it out. I have to do something else. And that doesn’t make sense in that moment because I’ve got to get it done, but it’s like, I’ve got to move my energy some other way. So this, do you see how this process teaches you how to work with yourself, work with your energy rather than against it.

And my work product has increased in quality and my work time has decreased significantly, okay? So that’s number one. Number two, your conscious sun. I would get really comfortable and dig in to my conscious sun. Why? Because it’s your life’s work, which is also known as your brand in the gene keys. That’s how I treat it.

It is the light you are here to shine. Understand your light. Because it’ll also tell you what you’re probably biggest shadow is, one of your biggest shadows. I would really focus on understanding that shadow and starting to notice it in my life. When you start to notice it, then you can start to shift it.

When you start to shift it, then you start to shine your light brighter and people start to come to it, come to you for the thing that you are just naturally so amazing at. And that’s how you get paid to be you. So get good at that. Okay. Number three, the cosmic niche. In a cosmic niche, your chart answers so many questions about you and your business.

And specifically about like, there’s a lot of questions that entrepreneurs will kick around for weeks, months, years, never feel like they are done with it. And the niche is probably at the very top of that list. They’re always figuring out their message. They’re always figuring out their niche. And. Yes, we refine those things over time, but so many people just really don’t know who it is and they don’t know what these things are.

And human design, there’s something about when you start to explore it, you get greater clarity as to why you’re good at certain things and why you’re not good at certain things, what you can help people with. And your cosmic niche is one of those things. I would get really comfortable and start diving into my cosmic niche.

My nodes and understanding those themes in my life, because that’s going to help me understand who I help and how I help them. And this has been indispensable for me because there’s so many ways I could go with what I do. I have a coach right now who I love. They’re wonderful. And. They make suggestions about things, about what type of niche we should be going for.

And in the past, I would have just listened to them and changed everything that I was doing to fit their model, because it’s what they teach. And this is how you get results with them. And instead I can hear that, take their advice and pass it through my authority. And I look at it through my cosmic niche and I’m like, but if I do it their way, I’m leaving out these people and this way that I help.

And that’s my cosmic niche. That is who I am. Destined to be around, to help, to have a relationship with. And I don’t want to lose that. How can I maybe take their advice without losing that? Just gives me so much to go on. That’s coming from me. I feel so confident in the answers that I get because they’re mine, not me trying to fit into somebody else’s mold or just take somebody’s advice blindly.

Okay. Number four of top 10 things I would do if I were building my business all over again, according to my human design, is I would understand my human design profile. Your human design profile is the role that you are here to play in this life. It tells you how you operate. tells you what you need. So like as a one line, I need to create things.

I need time to nurture myself with information. I need to really build expertise. It tells me how I become the best version of myself. How do I live out my purpose so much? comes from your profile, that when you start to understand it, if you know that you are a five, two, you know, that you need to call yourself up every five, two and two, five that I work with has this problem where they feel like they’re getting ready, but they’re just, they can’t do it.

And for them to know that I can’t tell you, nobody can give you permission. But as a five, two, you have to decide that you want to be a leader. Nobody else can do it. You have to give yourself permission. Knowing that about themselves changes how they feel about whether they can step up or not. It empowers them to do it themselves.

It changes you. Profile becomes this wonderful tool to understand how to work with your energy better. What is your process? What is it like for you? The way I work with a 5 1 is very different than the way that I work with a 2 4, right? Because they’re different. 4s are going to have a different way of bringing in clients.

4s are going to have a different way of relating to people, okay? So understanding that is so key. Number five, I would be doing nervous system regulation work. I would go very deep, very fast. And then I would make it part of my daily practice of maintaining that once I did a big clean out. So I would be doing, probably in the beginning, I would hire a breathwork facilitator and I would do a couple private sessions.

And I would do that to get to the deeper issues that I have and exercise those demons. So much of your trauma, small T and big T, is trapped in your body. in your emotional system, in your nervous system, and it’s so deep we cannot get to it through the brain. And breathwork, I think, is the thing that can really break it out of your body.

It’s an amazing tool for that. And once you do it for a bit and you kind of get to that really deep layer and you clear some of that, then you can go on maintenance with it and then you can do your daily breathworks just with like a recording if you want to. And then I would be also incorporating EFT tapping.

EFT changed my life. It is the best tool for deconditioning your centers and your shadows. Working through some of the energies that we find in your chart. I use the chart as a map and I look for the shadows in the chart and then we tap on those specific shadows. So we can break the emotional connection we have to the conditioning, not just the cognitive and conscious connection that we have to the conditioning.

It’s so important that we go beyond just the brain because the brain is only part of it. The trauma, the pattern is trapped in your emotions. If you’re dealing with it from a thought level, you will find that the same patterns repeat regardless of how many affirmations you say, or how many times you rewire a thought, right?

You have to get to the emotion. The emotion is the glue holding you in that old pattern. You want to break the pattern to break the emotional connection. And that’s what EFT is so amazing for. I, like, there’s nothing in my mind better than that. Number six, I would understand my defined and my undefined energy in my chart.

Now, What I mean by this is everything that is colored in in my chart versus everything that is white in my chart and the colored in stuff that is going to be the energy that I transmit that’s going to be the energy I’m here to master as my own in this life, everything that’s white in my chart, whether it’s a gate, a channel, a center.

That is going to be, anything undefined is going to be something that I receive. We receive that energy. This is the key to understanding how to embody your chart, is understanding how this energy works. And it tells you what you have to offer. So I would be starting to understand those energies and I would work on my defined stuff and then I would maybe work on my undefined stuff and start to explore those different areas, thinking about it from that place.

Oh, this is what people feel from me. Oh, this is what I feel from other people. Now you’re getting to know yourself, and now you are getting to ground into that. You can start to pay attention to what you feel from other people, or what you feel from the world around you. Understand your relationship to it.

Number seven, I would get very specific about the problems I solve and how I solve them for the people that I’m meant to help. I would be developing cash content from these problems and from their desires. I would really get to know, okay, well, what’s my expertise? Now I have my cosmic stuff. I have all of the energetics from the human design part.

But now, how do I start to turn that into a message? And that Is honestly the part that most entrepreneurs are missing. They can’t articulate what they do, not in a way that inspires people to buy from them. So they put content out there that nobody pays attention to. They launch or they do things that are, they’re trying to sell their offers and nobody’s buying.

Because people don’t understand what you can do for them. Magnetism isn’t enough. You have to have some sort of strategy behind it. You have to be able, if you want to sell somebody something, you’ve got to be able to tell them why they should buy it. We don’t buy what we don’t need or we don’t want. If you’re investing in something, anything, it’s because you either want the thing because you think it will bring you some sort of pleasure, or you want the thing because you think it will help you overcome a problem that you have.

Right? I’m not going to go buy a new toilet plunger because I just saw it in the store. I either have a broken one or I don’t like the one I have and I want to replace it and I think this one is nicer. There’s a reason. You’ve got to give people reasons. And if you can’t articulate that, you’re going to have a hard time selling.

That’s what I hear from entrepreneurs so often is that they have trouble making sales. And then I ask them, how do they bring in clients? And they tell me that they don’t really have a process for it. And when I asked them, where do they put up content? They tell me that they put up content, but when I look at it, I could not tell you what they do.

So it’s these two things. This is what I mean about kind of, I have to combine some of these to get them in, but developing cash content and having a client acquisition process, then number eight, I would identify my short and my long term goals. So many entrepreneurs try to tackle big, giant vision board items.

That’s what they put. What are your goals? And I say, I have a seven figure business goals. Be profitable. Okay, that’s fine. That belongs on your list, but it’s not going to help you today. Because that’s too big. We bring it down to something based on the needs that you have right now. If you have bills to pay, how much do you need to pay?

How much money do you need to feel good? And what do you need to sell in order to reach that? And what are the actions that are going to help you create that? Now that might not sound very like in line with design, but it’s the methods that you use that help you do that. It’s the methods that you use that help you be in alignment with the actions that you take.

So again, everything comes back to the design, but you still need this. Otherwise, this is why so many people are broke, myself included. I was broke for a long time because no one taught me how to go after short term goals. It was either have a big giant launch that made you feel like your whole year was made or you were starving.

And that sucks when you’re starving, that sucks when it might take you six months to build that launch, or three months, or four months, and which is still a very short amount of time to be able to do that and have it work, by the way, but in those three or four months, do you have bills to pay that you cannot pay?

You need to look at that and be able to manage that, and I wish someone had taught me how to do that, but that would be something that I would focus on. Setting short term goals, defining the actions I had to take, and then this is where we’re combining energy with strategy. If I have a short term goal, Of making 3, 000 this month, right?

And I identify that I can sell a certain offer that I have, and I can try to get four people into it because that will get me to my targeted number. So how am I going to get those clients? Well, I have to take certain actions. Maybe I’m reaching out to past clients. Maybe I am, I’m taking certain actions that will drive traffic to my offer or.

Book sales calls for me or whatever it is that I’m doing. So if I have that process laid out and then I am not doing the work, then that’s the internal work that I have to do. So this is how we start to become better at being ourselves and get over our conditioning and to get over our trauma. And that’s where things like tapping come in.

So if I’m having trouble taking action on something that I know could deliver me the result that I need, but I’m not doing it. The short term goal will help me really see that. If I have it, like, part of the long term vision, and I’m just working toward this big thing of, well, I’ve gotta, like, put together my launch.

There’s so many steps in there in between, that can just feel like it takes forever, and it’s not keeping you honest. Because there’s so many things that you could be doing in that big, giant project, that you’re not really paying attention to the things that you’re avoiding. And it’s the things that you’re avoiding that will help you grow.

So short term goals give you a smaller menu of items that you are trying to action. So you can actually say, am I doing all these things and are I doing them well? And if I’m not doing them, then I’ve got to look at that. Because if I’m avoiding it, then I’m avoiding my own success. And if I’m avoiding my own success, I need to see that so that I can move that energy and I can shift it so I can become different and I can do the things that will make me money.

You have to learn to get over yourself. You have to learn to get over your stuff. That was the biggest hurdle for me and most of the people that I work with. We all have stuff, we just have different stuff. So that’s why it’s so important to have a coach that talks to you and can call you out on your stuff.

That’s how you change. So that is something that I would do. And then I would visualize my goals every single day. So that I could start to see them happening. Number nine, I would align my offers with everything above. I would make sure that my offers were aligned with my magic and with my message and how I help people and I would start to test my message.

I would start to put it out there and see what people were reacting to and I would do that without making it personal. That’s a very big thing. And then the last thing I would do after I have that message and that offer is I would create an authority platform because the authority platform, which I call a podcast, having a podcast authority platform is your distribution of your magic, your message and your offers.

If you’re not putting it out there in a way where people can engage with you, go deep and be helping to self select whether they want to buy from you, you’re not putting it out there. Then. People aren’t going to buy and Instagram and these other social media platforms, your content has no legs, put it out one day, it’s dead.

The next day, maybe you get something that runs for a couple of days, then it dies out. It does not come back unless someone’s visiting your profile. And to me, I can’t count on that. And I don’t like that. I also don’t like having to feel like I have to create content every day. And I don’t like the fact that the attention span on those platforms is seven to ten seconds long.

That’s very difficult to get somebody to buy into your philosophy behind something. It’s very difficult for people to decide to invest with you based on for something like transformation, like what I offer, or even the type of business that I help people build. Getting people to understand what I do in 7 seconds, I can make them intrigued in 7 seconds, but can I get them intrigued enough and bought in enough to invest thousands of dollars with me?

Probably not. I mean, it happens, but those people are few and far between. Most people go to my podcast, which is where I want them. Because that’s where they can binge to their heart’s content. They can listen to episodes from yesterday or from two years ago and be experiencing me the way I explain things, the way I speak, the way I teach.

And what they’re doing in their mind is they’re saying, do I want to work with her? I think I want to work with her. I think I want to work with her. If I’m creating a breakthrough for them for free. They’re thinking, what could she do with me if I paid her? If I got into that program, if I were talking to her every single week and she knew me and she was guiding me and she was helping me to guide myself, what could we accomplish?

That’s what I want. And I’ve only been able to find podcasts and YouTube, I think are the only places where you can really do that. You can build that type of relationship with people. And because of the podcast, we have both. We do YouTube and we do the audio podcast, and it is absolutely the engine for all that we do.

It is what drives and nurtures all of our leads to my offers. And it’s how I can take a vacation. And still feel like my business is moving. I can make sales when I’m not working. And that is because of this show. And that is because of how I repurpose it all over the place. Everything you see, my Instagram content is repurposed from this podcast.

It’s a 95 percent of it. It’s all repurposed from here with AI, and then I do little tweaks to it, but it saves me so much time and a lot of creative energy. So I don’t think there’s a substitute for an authority platform. I don’t think there’s a substitute for a podcast because it’s invaluable to be able to have people experience your work and be able to binge it to their heart’s content.

And when you’re someone like me, where you’ve been doing this for years. We have hundreds of episodes. I mean, I have people that tell me, they’re like, I, you know, I went on a road trip and I listened to you for eight hours. I binged your podcast for two weeks and then they joined my program. The reason they buy so fast and so regularly is because I have so much content that’s available for them to binge and to experience.

And that’s priceless. And no, of course, you don’t start out with 350 episodes, but you don’t need that many. You just need to keep building. And I promise you, Lord, it goes so fast. It feels like yesterday I recorded my first episode and now we’re at, this is episode 355. So you do not need this many episodes to have that kind of impact, but you won’t believe how quickly they start to accumulate.

And you’re like, wow, I can’t believe we’re at 100 episodes. It’s amazing. And you’ll be amazed at What people say and how people thank you for your show when you’re making an impact like this. So these are my top 10 things. This is what I would do.
