Episode 404

Hello and welcome to Unshakable with Human Design. I’m your host, Nicole Laino, and it’s just you and me today. We’re going to have a little conversation and we’re going to talk about branding, and we’re going to talk about business building, and we’re going to talk about what that really means to do that with human design, which is obviously one of my favorite topics. But it’s also something that I see some people get so wrong. And I think that a lot of that comes from, you know, what’s the intention with it? It’s not that we’re gaming the system. It’s a way of understanding what you’re here for. And when you understand what you’re here for, you walk harder in that direction. It gives you confidence to show up big, being who you are. 

And quite frankly, when you have a business and a brand, that is currency. So where I think about this, like, I think about branding and I think about we can do a lot of things. You’re probably good at so many things. So when we go to, like, that traditional way of branding, you know, if you went to just like a branding or a business building program, which you’ve probably been through already, right? If you’re building a personal brand or if you’re not, like, marketing one, even if you are marketing one specific expertise, you might find that it’s like, I’m really good at this thing. I am an amazing coach, I am an amazing leader, I am an amazing lawyer. But there’s going to be a way that you show up that’s going to differentiate you from everybody else. 

There’s going to be something where it stops being just what you do and starts becoming who you are. And that’s when people get really attracted to us. So, you know, your brand can be about a lot of things if you look at just what you’re good at. But how do we choose that path where we feel like we’re living our purpose, where the more you. You become, the. The more your business grows, the more you dig in and become yourself, the more influence you have in your marketplace, on social media, or wherever it is that you’re putting it out there, the more I’ve grounded into My design and I have gotten where. And this is very much an internal and an external shift. I’m gonna make that really clear. 

I think people think it’s magic, or we just take the words and we put them into our copywriting, or we figure out, and you’ve probably heard me say this before on the show, that, you know, we figure out what it is, and then that’s, you know, game’s over. And. No, it’s not that. It is an evolution inside of us that also creates an evolution outside of us. So today we’re going to talk about the conscious sun. And conscious sun is branding by design. I see it as putting, like, puzzle together. It’s like we are putting this puzzle together, and conscious sun is a very big piece of that puzzle. It’s a bigger piece than all the other pieces that we’re putting together. You know, some of those puzzle pieces are going to be your expertise. 

It’s going to be the things that you do, which those are large pieces, too. There’s going to be all of the members of the authority matrix, as I call it, which is my, like, little cocktail of human design elements that. That I like to help people work with in order to build their brand and stand out as an authority in their space. All of those pieces are out there, and then there’s all the other ones. You know, you might be Pluto for you or something. Those are smaller pieces of the puzzle. All pieces of the puzzle, though. The puzzle doesn’t get finished without all of them. But there’s going to be some that play a bigger role. 

Like, if you’ve ever put a puzzle together and you get, like, a key piece that you put in, that then allows you to put all of the other pieces together so much more easily. It’s like, you see it. It’s like, oh, and now I see what this one is or what this one is. It’s like you get the color scheme or something, or you’re like, oh, I figured out what we’re looking at now. And now I see how all of these other pieces fit in, and that can be the thing that propels you to finishing it. That, to me, is like, what the conscious sun does. It’s a really big piece of that puzzle. And that’s what we’re going to talk about in today’s episode.

Okay, so let’s talk about Conscious Sun. 

So the conscious sun, just from like a technical standpoint, your conscious sun is part of your Incarnation cross. So there are four gates in the Incarnation Cross. But what makes Conscious Sun? So you’re sorry, your incarnation crosses your purpose. Let me just back up there for a second. For those of you who maybe are new to this or you’re not really sure, the Incarnation Cross is technically your life’s purpose. It’s your life path. Like, what is the movie of your life really about? Right? This is what your Incarnation cross is about. But your conscious sun plays a pivotal role in this because it’s what leads your cross. So there are four gates in the Incarnation Cross. Conscious Sun, Conscious Earth, Unconscious Sun, Unconscious Earth.

But out of all four of those, depending on when you are born, the conscious sun is always the one that takes the lead. And that will change based on when you were born. So I’m the cross of Dominion, the left angle cross of Dominion. My conscious sun is gate 64. My conscious earth is gate 63. But if you were born in, I think it’s in March is when the polarity is for mine. Where the other cross of dominion is, there’s two times a year where it comes up, that person has a conscious son of gate 63, not gate 64, like I have it. Okay, so that is how this works. So your conscious son is the one that leads the cross. 

So the person who is a Pisces and is led by gate 63 with the same cross as me, their cross is very different. It’s going to express very differently for them. The conscious sun is like the guiding light, the north star of your life, of your cross, of your purpose. It’s another way of adding nuance because there will be, if you have a right angle cross, there’s going to be four of those throughout the year. There’s going to be more people who have your incarnation cross. And I mean, there’s millions of them. But what’s going to make you different is going to be your profile is going to make you different, your type is going to make you different. The rest of your chart is going to make you different, but you’re also going to have the different times of year. 

The sun is going to make you different. The conscious sun, your guiding light, will be different than somebody who has it at a different time of year. Now, if you get into astrology, the conscious sun, I’m a Virgo. So the Virgo, like my conscious sun, is a Virgo gate. That colors the cross. It colors who I am. The sun in astrology is who you are. It’s your personality. It’s how you show up, how you’re meant to show up in the world. There’s an essence to it, right? Well, the person who has gate 63 leading it is a Pisces. That’s going to be very different than a Virgo. It’s a polarity, it’s different. So this is how we start to look at this. And this is why conscious sun is so important. 

The incarnation cross, which we’ve talked about on this show before, is beautiful and wonderful and absolutely like that’s the core of everything. But I wanted to focus on this one gate because I think if you start to understand the conscious sun, you start to understand very much about what you are here for. I understand through my cross, but it is my 64th gate that gives me most of the insight about what the whole thing means. It is the peace that makes it, the rest of it all make sense. 

And the more that I work with my gate 64, with my conscious sun, and I understand it and I live it and I honor it and I get curious about it, one, it helps me to embody it, which makes me brighter, which makes me show up bigger, which makes more people be Attracted to me for the thing that I am naturally here for my authenticity. But not only that. We call this your brand gate. That’s what it’s called in the Gene Keys. That’s one name for it in the pearl sequence. It’s called your brand. And I think that this confuses people because they like, how can my brand be like for me, mine? It’s called the gate of confusion. How can my brand be confusion? 

Well, it’s not that it’s what it means to me, but it’s also the gift of it is the illumination. So if I can embody illumination, if I can embody imagination, then I can really start to understand what it is that I am here for and what it is that people will respond to in me, what is authentic for me. It helps keep me on track. It helps me really ground into, oh, this is what the whole movie’s about. Your conscious sun is also called your life’s work in Gene Keys. And it is my favorite way to describe this gate because I think it reminds you that it’s work, it’s the work of your life and you will work at this for your entire life. But it shouldn’t feel like work necessarily. It should feel like growth. 

It is the most high impact growth path that you could have is to work on your life’s work. Because the more you embody this, the more you allow it, the more you understand it. And I mean, when I say understand, I don’t mean to get it confused with, you know, you studying it and intellectually understanding it. I mean it from a sense of like, where it becomes something that feels like it’s part of you and you’re understanding yourself and you’re understanding how to step into this thing bigger. I look at my gate of illumination, my gate of confusion, if I’m not in alignment or if I’m in the shadow of it. And you know, that is a daunting task to think that I could illuminate a path for other people or that could be something that I do. 

But if I look at my brand, I think that is what I do on my best day, is that I help people see possibility, maybe where they don’t see any. I give them a new way to look at something, maybe through asking the right question or just showing them a path that they might not have thought was possible for them or they might not have thought to take. What I’m doing with this show, I have an impact on people because I’m. And people tell me all the time, some of the feedback that we get is that this helped them understand themselves so much more. It inspired them. While that’s not everything that I do think that is the core of what I’m here for, and it is where my greatest impact is felt. But remember, it’s not the only piece in the puzzle. 

I don’t stop there. But what’s so cool about growth through this branding by design sort of framework, or. I don’t mean to make it sound so logical, but building a brand according to who you are, what’s so amazing about it is the fact that as you evolve, the brand evolves with you, and it makes you feel safer about making changes that feel like they’re truly in alignment with your evolution. It shows you where you were resisting your own evolution or your own path, because you’re realizing, this is where I’m supposed to go and I can’t ignore it anymore. So I have to look at this resistance that I have. It isn’t misalignment, it’s fear or it’s just something that I am. I am afraid to take this step. I’m afraid to sit down and do it. 

And it confronts you in the best way because it’s confronting you to grow in the area that will have the greatest impact on your life. And then you just have to trust that impact on your life will have an impact on others. This is that thing of being able to, like, the people who we admire, who do great things and have these amazing lives and stuff like that. The. The creatives and the people that we are like, oh, I wish I had their life. Most of those people would say it wasn’t this design of, you know, wanting to be famous or wanting to be rich. Those might have been things that they were like, yeah, you know, I would love those things. But they did it for the love of something. They did it because it felt like theirs. It felt like their path. 

And the byproduct is the fame and the money and all of the other stuff. So we have to trust that. And I think that this is a way that we. That allows us to trust the best parts of us and dig into the things that really matter for us so that we don’t miss the movie. Right. I have some conscious sons to call out because I want to show you that it isn’t so linear and that this is. It’s a theme, right? So if you think about it like a concept of a movie, the underlying. There’s an underlying theme to every movie. And the plot of the movie might be different, the things that happen in the movie might be very different, but it might have the same underlying theme. 

But then there also might be this little twist of how that theme is turned differently in that movie. So my son is obsessed with the K pop Demon Hunters movie, which is on Netflix and which is actually so much better than it sounds. I actually enjoyed it and still have those songs playing on repeat in my head over and over again. So beware if you haven’t watched it, then you will have those songs in your head, I guarantee you. They are earworms. K Pop Demon Hunters is about this girl group, a pop group of girl singers, K pop singers that are, they are demon hunters. So they are vanquishing demons with their amazingly beautiful and love filled songs. 

And then a boy band comes and they are demons and the boys are demons and they are trying to steal the souls by distracting them and kind of infusing them with shame and all of this stuff. So it is a battle of good and evil. That is what theme of the movie, even though they’re. It’s about K pop and these pop singers and what’s happening in all of the action in the movie. That’s just how they told the story. But what the story is about good and evil, I’m going to get deeper into that. So like the high level of that theme, good versus evil. Now let’s take Star wars, one of my favorite movies ever, Star Wars. I think everybody knows what star. I don’t need to explain the plot of Star wars, but what is Star wars about? 

Good versus evil, the dark side versus the light versus the force. Now you could say that these are, it’s very similar, right? We have, we have the dark side versus the light in K Pop Demon Hunters. We have the dark side versus the light in Star Wars. The greater theme is dark versus light, Good versus evil. Right? So that would be like the incarnation cross. Maybe the same cross is for this analogy of why I’m telling why I’m going into this whole movie analogy here. The theme is sort of that incarnation cross. It’s like the, it’s the greater theme, right? But the conscious sun that’s guiding each one of these is different. K Pop Demon Hunters is more about mental health and shame and how we carry things. It is more about the human experience of that. 

And then Star Wars I would say has the nuance to that one is that we are all connected by a universal force. Now those themes are in both of those movies. Each of Them is fine. But which one leads, which one is taking? Where you’re saying this is the most important thing. This is really at the core of it. That’s the difference between Conscious sun and the incarnation Cross theme is. It’s that nuance, and then it’s what it means to you. You might think that Star wars is about something else than I do, but what matters is George Lucas, who wrote Star Wars. He’s like, this is what it means to me. This was my guiding light. This was my North Star as I was writing it. I have a couple of people, real people. So Lady Gaga, her conscious son is gate 17. 

It’s the gate of opinions now is everything that she does is her whole brand. Opinions? No. But as she has evolved and as her career has gone on and as she has grown as a person and an artist, she has started to have a point of view and her thoughts, and she’s really wanted to make a statement with the movies that she makes and the. Certainly the music that she puts out, the songs that she writes. Hemingway, his gate six. Gate 56 was his conscious sun. Storytelling is the 56th gate. It is a gate of stimulation, stimulating stories. He’s one of the most captivating writers I have ever read. Most beautiful writers. Is it everything about. I mean, this one is pretty literal, but it is an essence of the way that he showed up. 

When I think of Hemingway, I’m like, those are books I can’t put down. Those are books that took me places. Those are stories and characters that deeply affected me. They were stimulating to me. That is kind of the brand. Now. Did Hemingway set out for that to be his brand? No, he did what he did and he showed up just being that and doing what he did. And. And it came through in his work. And I want you to see that it comes through in your work. I don’t get up every day and say, like, how am I going to illuminate people today? No, it is a byproduct of me showing up and being in alignment with who I am and not ignoring it and not shying away from ways that I could step into that bigger. 

So I hope you see that there is a balance, that there is a nuance to this, that there is a way of approaching this that is both you. You can look at this and ask those questions about how could this be my brand? We just don’t want to force it into being our brand. And we don’t want to. Certainly don’t want to miss the whole movie, the whole point, the whole game, which is embodying it, which is living through it. And that’s what I see. That makes me sad when I see people approach human design from this intellectual place or from a place where they’re really trying to make something happen with it versus allowing it to work through them. And that’s why they’re stuck, and that’s why it’s not going well. 

So my hope is that with this episode that you listen to this and you’re just like, oh, I need to just hang this over me. I just need to let it wash over me. I. I need to let this be something that’s always, in my experience, that I’m always kind of turning over and contemplating and. And getting curious about and asking myself, how can I be bigger in this way? How can I step into that bigger? Am I scared of my gift? Is this something that feels too big for me? Do I not understand it? Do I need to ask some better questions so that I can? Or do I need to just walk around my life and look for it showing up? Because sometimes we can’t figure it out, but it’s right in front of our face. That’s more often what’s happening.
