How to Know If You’re Building the Wrong Business for Your Human Design

Hello, and welcome to Unshakeable with Human Design. I’m your host, Nicole Laino. And it’s just you and me today, and I wanted to talk about something that I’ve honestly been noticing this forever. It’s at the core of why I do what I do. But this has certainly been happening a lot lately, and I think with the changes that we are noticing happening in the world, I think that probably that is contributing to this happening more. But I have so many clients who come to me. I’ve been doing a lot of readings lately, and. And I’ve been doing quite a few of the business readings that I do, which is interesting because I get to dive into a person’s business with them through the lens of their human design. 


And I’m just always not shocked because I’m used to it, but I’m so pleasantly, like, surprised and excited when I have those sessions because we can get so much done in that one session. They’re really cool. And as I’m sitting down with them, I have so many people that are coming to me, and they’re questioning things in their business. They’re questioning their direction, and they’re often dancing around some decisions about what offers they should create or how they should launch. Like, should I run a masterclass? Should I have a mastermind? Should I leave my business and start something new? There’s all of these big questions that they’re asking and all the way up to, like, you know, burning it all down, which I hear a lot of, you know, people pondering, like, should I just start over from scratch? 


Is this just not right for me anymore? And there’s a core problem that we have here. The core problem is that a lot of times people are. Up until the point that they find me, probably, I think that’s usually why people end up coming to me, is because they are seeking strategic answers for energetic problems or spiritual problems or personal problems. And. And then they are seeking energetic or spiritual tools for strategic problems. This is the whole reason I have a business, is because of this core problem. So people will be like, should I launch this way? Should I have a mastermind? Should I. What should my offer be? What should I do here? And they think it’s a strategic answer that they need. And actually they need to ground themselves because usually they are ungrounded in that. 


And sometimes they’re like, oh, I just need to clear this block that I have. Or I have this happen. The other day in Business by Design, a client came in and she was like, I want to talk about my abundance issues. I want to talk about these blocks. And as I poked through and asked questions, she had a strategic problem that needed fixing. She didn’t have an abundance problem. And maybe she does. Like, it’s fine to. I don’t consider the energetic work ever done. I think that it’s, you know, I always say it’s like. It’s like showering. It’s hygiene, you know, Just because you’ve done some abundance work does not in any way mean that your next level doesn’t require more abundance work because you’re comfortable where you are. You. 


It’s the known world that you are living in, and you want to get to someplace unknown beyond where you currently are. So you are going to have. There’s probably some internal reason why you do not have that already. And that’s our job as entrepreneurs to work through that. It’s our job as people. I don’t care if you’re an entrepreneur or not. Entrepreneurs just have the freedom to make whatever they desire happen. We don’t all have the ability. We don’t have the. Not everybody has the tools, but the playing field is open for us. Whereas somebody in corporate sometimes will be like, you know, when my boss won’t give this to me, or that’s not in my career path, or I can’t jump up from that, or I can’t get paid more doing what I want. 


So they have some other problems, other limitations with them making these decisions. But this is why I do the work that I do. The work that I do is to sit with somebody and help them see or I see whether they have a strategic problem or they have a spiritual problem. And what’s the prescription for either or both of those? Because a lot of times it’s a combination of both. But almost always the client is leaning on the wrong tool. Almost always. And the reason is because they can’t see it. You know, I always say, you can’t read the label from inside the bottle. So that’s my job. That’s what I do. Asking better questions gets us to better answers. I can see when somebody is spinning. 


I can see when somebody is stuck in a mental loop that’s causing them to seek out the wrong Tools and to not be grounded in their own process. The reason I can do that is my genius. And that’s what we’re going to talk about in this episode today. This is at the core of it. But what I want to break down for you here are three signs that you can use to kind of guide you that will show you that if you’re building your business out of alignment with your design and how to course correct that. I don’t want you to feel like it’s just these strategic problems or energetic problems. There are these kind of core three signals that I notice that tell us they’re kind of markers along the path that say you should pause right here and check yourself. 


And some of it is human design related. I mean, you can always come back to your human design process because your human design process is going to be sending out signals for you if you’re frustrated, if you are. But it doesn’t necessarily tell you what to do with that. And that’s what we’re going to break down here. I’m going to kind of break down, what are these three signs that I see so often and how do we course correct from them? How do we notice the signpost and say, okay, this is my moment to like take out the map and you know, reconnect with myself and really decide where I want to go from a place of alignment And I’m going to break down. Like really why these things happen, why are these signs popping up and how you can kind of self diagnose. 


Okay, all right. So the first one is if your business is running on discipline and not on energy, this is going to be a problem. This is one of those signs. If I’m noticing that people are having trouble staying connected to what they’re doing, they are stopping and starting, they’re procrastinating. Then to me, it’s telling me that they are not really in alignment with what they’re doing because it shouldn’t be this difficult. And again, sometimes there’s often more nuance to these things because sometimes they are just, they’re finding their alignment here and they’re impatient and that’s their mind going telling them that they should be moving without stopping all the time. I don’t mean that you have to be consistently working 24 hours a day or 40 hours a week. That’s not what I mean. 


I mean this like inability to really like where you’re always, you know, you start working and then you’re changing direction and then you’re changing it Again, and then you change it back to the other thing. And this might sound like manifesting generator operating behavior, but it’s really not. It shouldn’t be scattered. And when you are trying to discipline yourself constantly to show up, to me, that says that there is something that’s not coming from inside of you, it’s coming from. It’s a task. You know, it’s. These are just instructions that you’ve given yourself and you’re not able to follow them. So what do we do with that? Well, one, you can come back to your human design process. You can come back to your strategy and authority, of course. 


But at the end, I’m going to tell you, everything does kind of boil down to one core guiding light. And I’ll share that at the end here. But this stopping and starting pattern really is a signal. It’s not normal. Like the word normal doesn’t make you abnormal. But it’s not a positive sign. It’s a sign that I look at and I say there’s some cause for inspection here, investigation. We should dig in a little bit here and ask some good questions to see why you are struggling with staying consistent, whatever consistent looks like for you. If you have an open ego, consistency is going to look different than it does for me. Consistency is going to be. I always say that consistency isn’t a consistency of the work, it’s a consistency of your energy. 


If you are able to show up in some way every day, it does not mean that you’re doing the same thing every day. And it doesn’t mean that you’re showing up every single day for the same amount of time, but that you are consistently moving in a direction and that direction feels smooth. Mostly that. And if you’re not hopping into your head, questioning yourself constantly, because that to me says that there is something off. It says to me that you’re leading with intellect and you’re not leading from a. An energetically aligned place. Okay, so the second sign that I see often that indicates that people are building their business not according to their human design, that they’re building maybe the wrong business or building it incorrectly, is they can say what they do, but they cannot really say what they are known for. 


They’re not really known for anything yet. They’ll say what they do, but they haven’t really grasped the essence of what makes them special at this, because people will love them, but they still can’t repeat back to you what you do. They still can’t really Grasp it. And this happens a lot. There are a lot of people that are geniuses at what they do, but they can’t really the articulation gap that we have. And there are some people. Now, there’s going to be some human design caveats in here. If you’re a two line, other people are going to be helping you fill that articulation gap. If you’re a five line like me, you’re really going to need to know what it is. 


And there’s going to be some essence to every single person that says why you are good at something versus somebody else doing the same thing. 


And. 


And they have a completely different way of delivering that or, you know, showing up in that way. Lots of people teach human design. I teach it differently. I talk about it differently. This show is different. I have a very different approach. Even when I was talking about my ability to see what people are going through, to see when they are stuck like this, that’s a gift I have, and that is something that I used to take for granted. I think a lot of coaches in particular can take their vision and their ability to see what’s going on in somebody for granted because they think that everybody can do it. And it’s true. When you say it like that, oh, well, I can see what’s going on with you. That’s kind of vague. It’s not very specific. 


I know what I see with people, and I know why I see it in people. And I will tell you when I’m done with the list because it all kind of like culminates into that. So I’ll share it with you when I’m done with the full list of three signs. But if you can say what you do but not what you are known for, not what makes you special, not what you really have to offer somebody that is different than everybody else, then you fall into what I call the articulation gap. And this is a problem that we need to solve. And it’s actually a human design aspect that can help you solve it. 


So now the third piece, the third sign that you know you’re building your business maybe not according to your human design or as in alignment with it as it could be, is your growth is capped. You’re spinning in circles. You find that you are constantly trying to outdo your own self, to outdo your own performance. And the issue is that the business can’t grow past you because it’s all built on tasks instead of on who you are. You’re wondering, what do I do to get to the next level rather than who do I become? And I know that’s a very manifestation kind of question, right? Who do I need to become in order to have what I want or to get to this level? And human design actually shows us how we become that person. 


It’s just not in the typical way that we would do it. It isn’t about you having just some list of tasks that the future or better version of you would be doing or a way that they would be living. It would be some sort of gift that they have set into. And that’s the magic of human design. That’s how human design bridges the gap between the strategic problems that we have and the spiritual, energetic problems that we have. It gives us the vocabulary to ask those questions either of ourselves or of our clients. And I do it for both. I’m honestly better at doing it for my clients than I am for myself because again, hard to read the label from inside the bottle, but I do it and. But it’s more of a process for me. 


I don’t see myself the way that I see other people. So those are the three signs. The third sign is that you are spinning in circles. Your growth is capped, you feel plateaued and your business can’t grow past you. You’ve hit a growth plateau. And that’s usually what sends people into that mental processing of what am I going to do to get to the next level? And you might ask that question, who do I need to become? But that ends up just being this like, made up idea of what you think that version of you would be like. And instead your human design chart can give you a sense of what that is, but not only what it is or what that gift is of how you get there and how to know when you’re not in alignment with it. 


That’s the magic of this. That’s what makes this so incredibly powerful. So what is that one piece? What is that one human design element that really does help us boil it down to. This is the thing that will help you get out of these three traps, so to speak, that we’re in. How do we start building a business that is in alignment? Of course, there are so many aspects to the human design chart. Obviously I have the authority matrix that I’ve been working with for years. That, and when I do these business readings with clients, I’m breaking down their whole charts. And there are different things that jump out on everybody’s chart. However, there is one thing that I am consistent with no matter what, because it is the most important thing in your chart, and it’s the conscious sun. 


So the reason that I was saying that I can see things in people, My ability to be able to see when somebody is spinning, my ability to know how it isn’t just me seeing what’s in that person or where they’re stuck or how they’re stuck. A lot of coaches would say that, and it would sound super generic. Oh, well, I’m able to see when somebody is in trouble, and I can really see, you know, I can really diagnose it very quickly. That might sound really good and people might be interested in it, but very few people are going to buy it with that level of context. There’s not enough there. I’m not really saying enough to get them to go. I think I need that. 


I would have to demonstrate it to them in order for that to work, which a lot of people aren’t going to give you the ability to do that. You’re not going to get to work with someone and show them that you can help. They’re going to have to trust the messaging. They’re going to have to understand what you do. So for me, what makes me good at this is my 64th gate, my gate of confusion. The fact that I have been confused a lot of the time, the fact that I have had to overcome my own confusion throughout my entire life, and that I have a process for it. I can see somebody when they are in confusion. 


I can spot it from a mile away, and I can actually offer them something that guides them out of it, because I understand how that process works, and I understand it through the gates in my design. I understand it through the process that I’ve developed for how to overcome shadows and difficulties in your human design process so that you can actually live in the gifts. Because there’s something amazing that happens here when you’re doing it. You don’t have to, like, understand messaging or anything like that. You can just start to tell people what you’ve taken yourself through when you’ve actually started to live in the gift. People see it, they understand it. 


I don’t have to convince many people that I can help them through confusion because I’m demonstrating it all the time, and I’m talking about what that process looks like, and it’s magic. And they trust that I’m telling the truth because they’re like, I feel that you understand this better than I do. And that’s the whole game. You have a gift like I do, and maybe yours is like mine, where it doesn’t seem like a gift at all. Who would think that the Gate of Confusion has a gift with a name like that? Yuck. I certainly didn’t. When I first found out, I was like, this is bad. I don’t want this. Can I get another one? But now I wouldn’t have it any other way. It sucks when I get stuck in my confusion. Still happens to this day. 


All the time, I’m just better at seeing it. But it also, every time I get stuck in it and I find my way out, I’m better at helping somebody else do the same. Because it will feel like you have a million choices of what you could be doing and what you could be teaching and how you could be doing it. But when you understand what it is that draws people to you, the light you’re here to shine in this world, then it makes it so much easier. Like, the choices just go down to like, no, this is it.
