Human Design: The Collective Circuit in Life & Business

Episode 443

Why do certain things happening in the world feel impossible for you to ignore, while others seem completely unfazed by them?

In this episode, Nicole explores one of the most overlooked yet illuminating aspects of Human Design: circuitry. While many people focus on type, authority, or profile, circuitry reveals why some topics, causes, and conversations feel deeply personal to you — and why they may not hold the same weight for someone else.

This conversation centers on the collective circuit and how it influences the way we observe, process, and respond to what’s happening around us. Nicole shares why collective people often feel called to speak up, share stories, or point out patterns — especially during times of social or political tension — and why not being heard can feel so frustrating or even exhausting.

Nicole connects circuitry to business and visibility. If you’ve ever felt pulled toward sharing your voice publicly but struggled with motivation, consistency, or your relationship with social media, this episode offers clarity. Nicole also explains how understanding your circuitry can help you stop forcing yourself into strategies that don’t fit and instead work with the way you’re naturally designed to communicate and contribute.

Ultimately, this episode is about self-trust and self-observation. Rather than telling you what you “should” do, it invites you to understand how you’re meant to operate — so you can share, create, and show up in ways that feel aligned, sustainable, and true to who you are.

Episode 443:

Hello and welcome to Unshakable with Human Design. I’m your host, Nicole Laino, and today I want to have a little conversation about an aspect of human design that I don’t think gets mentioned enough. I don’t think it’s talked about enough. And I think that it’s one of the key pieces that gives you real insight into yourself, how you work, why you’re different than me. Why is it that sometimes we can be really similar to people, we have really similar points of view, but certain things are so important to that other person, and they don’t mean at all that much to us. And I think this particular aspect, what we’re talking about, is human design circuitry. Now, I have talked about this on the show before. Episode 384 was an episode that I did way early in 2025.

So if you want to hear me kind of break down each of the circuits, then please go listen to that episode where I take you through all of it. But also what I want to do in this episode is I want to talk about particularly the collective circuit and how I just. I’m a manifesting generator. I’m always trying to point out how this is practically how human design practically applies and is showing up in our everyday lives. And if we understand how it shows up in our everyday lives and. And how it works through us, then we start to understand ourselves so much better. And if we understand ourselves so much better, then we can become better entrepreneurs, the better business people, better at operating as ourselves in this life in whatever capacity you choose to operate in.

You know, whether you are a corporate executive or you’re working in the corporate environment, or you are a writer and you’re trying to get the most out of yourself. I believe that self mastery is the path to everything that we want in life. And not self mastery through a. The idea of like just, you know, forcing ourselves to perform, but self mastery from a sense of, I know myself so well that I know what works for me, I know what doesn’t. I know why I do these things. I know why I operate this way. And then you can begin to truly observe yourself. And when you’re observing yourself, you’re not taking things so personally. It’s going to be important to what we’re talking about today. You’re not going to take things so personally. You’re not going to be swept up in the program.

It’s really what human design is all about. The whole premise is that we are under a program. You’re programmed, I’m programmed, and then there’s the program, right? We all have our own specific codes that interface with the greater program that is going on in this world right now. When we can understand that there one, is a program and two, what that program is and how we are operating within it, then we can start to actually be more in charge, I suppose, more in the driver’s seat. All that wouldn’t be technical. Human design language that we’d want to use here. We’re not the driver. But when we get to observe the pattern and the program, we get to step out of the program and the pattern of it and we get to understand how we operate within it and we can see it.

And then we can choose to change what we want to change, or we can accept and allow where it feels right and we find our real path. And that’s what I think the real benefit of human design is so many other systems are trying to get us to conform to the program. And this is the one that just says, let’s just look at it. If you’ve ever heard of the saying of becoming the observer of your life, become the observer of your thoughts, become the observer of your emotions, that’s self mastery. And I believe the human design is a system that makes that feel like a much more accessible process. So I want to talk about collective circuitry here. Because I’m a manifesting generator. That was how I started this.

Thought I went off on a little bit of a tangent there, but I’m a manifesting generator. So what I bring to you on this show a lot of times I think when I’m at my best is when I am responding to something that I’m getting and I’m turned on. It’s the things that I can’t help thinking about. It’s the things that get my motor running or that I’m observing where it’s coming to me in all these different ways. And it’s like, oh, well, this is. This is what I’m being given right now. I’m manifesting generator. I am what turns me on. I am what gets me excited. This is what I meant to share. So something that I’ve been noticing a lot. And the reason I picked collective circuitry originally, I was like, let’s just talk about circuitry.

And I’m like, we did that already. We did that in episode 384. Go listen to that if you want to get a more, you know, higher level view of it. But it’s also what has been drawing me in the most is the collective circuit right now, partially because I’m a very collective person. So let’s start there. Oh, before I go any further, you might not know if you’re a collective person, if you are a tribal person, if you are an individual, or maybe you’re somebody who has a real distribution of these themes in your chart. Your chart will tell you if you don’t know. We have a free gates guide because every gate is associated with a circuit. It is either a tribal gate, a an individual gate, a collective gate, or an integration.

And when you and some of them play double duty, but we’ll leave that aside. And whatever gates they are, the channel is also the same thing, for the most part. So we have a free gates guide that says which circuit every single gate is associated with. So, you know, if you have the 1222 channel, you look at gate 12. Our little cheat sheet will show you that gate 12 is an individual gate and 22 is an individual gate. They’ll always be the same. Two ends of a channel will always be the same circuit. So you can do it that way. You know, you can look them both up, but you don’t really have to, except for integration. Gets a little bit wonky there, but we’ll leave that for another time.

But the circuitry for the gate will tell you what your circuitry is for your channels. And it’s the channels that are going to have the most weight for you. And then you’re also going to look at your incarnation cross. Are the gates of your incarnation cross leaning in any one area more than the other? So, for instance, my four gates of my incarnation cross are gate 64, gate 63, gate 45 and gate 26. So those are my four. 63 is the gate of doubt that is in the logical collective circuit. So collective logic, 64, collective abstract. So both collective. We’re in the same family, but we live in different houses, right on the same block. But then 45 and 26 are both true tribal ego. So because I have two in tribal ego, I lean a little bit more that way.

But I also, if you look at my channels and the channels that I have, that is my distribution as well. I have a fair amount of collective abstract. I have collective logic. And then I have tribal. Those are my channels. So I’m very much balanced between those two. But these are my two main themes are tribal, ego. Well, tribal. We’ll just say tribal and collective. Those are my two. I have no individual channels. Everybody will have a mix of their gates and the hanging gates are not going to hold as much weight. They’re not going to carry as much weight as your channels. And then those gates of your incarnation cross, of course. So this is how you start to figure out, you know, like, what am I?

Am I kind of like a more this or I’m a more that, or am I kind of like, you know, I am a well sprinkled pizza where all of the cheese seems to just cover all of the areas and there’s no place that leans heavier at all. Right. So this is how we can start to understand ourselves. That’s step one. And if you want the Gates guide so that you can follow along with us, you’ll need your chart, you’ll need the Gates guide so that you know what your channels and gates fall into. All you have to do is DM me. Gates on Instagram. I’m @nicolelainoofficial. We’ll send it to you right there or go to nicolelaino.com gates you can grab it right there off the website. It’s totally free.

It’s just a simple sheet that has a list of all of the gates, the names of the gates, the gene keys, expressions of them. So it’s got a lot of information on it, but it’s a very simple guide, but it’s super duper helpful. Great to like, print out have on your desk if you’re starting to do some of this work. Okay, cool. So every gate channel and to some degree, centers are associated with a particular type of circuit. So something like the spleen is very logical with a little bit of tribal in there, but it’s a very logical piece. It’s on the logical side of the chart, whereas the solar plexus is on the emotional side of the chart, on the abstract side of the chart. And then we have everything in between, so we have all of these.

It’s mostly the gates and the channels that we are looking at with this. Okay, so the reason why I felt like I wanted to talk about collective circuitry is today on the show is because there is a lot happening in the collective, and I’m a collective person. And it got me thinking where I was thinking about how I live in America, and there’s a lot happening here that’s very troubling and very upsetting. And I can feel both my collective side of me and my tribal side, both really just trying to stay focused. There’s kind of. It’s very. It’s been very difficult, I’ll be honest. It’s been very difficult for me to stay focused on the things that I need to do every day. I’m so grateful for my clients.

I want them to need something because once they need something, then I can be in response to that. It’s been very hard for me to motivate myself in any sort of direction because there is so much happening in the collective right now. I’m feeling it a lot. And I’ve been thinking about, you know, well, why is it that I feel so connected to this right now? And I feel like I want to talk about it, and I want to talk about it publicly, and I want to put it out on my social media. But I’m very careful about the way that I put things out on social media. I don’t like to just share the things that I see necessarily because I don’t think it gives enough context about what I mean and what it means to me, this thing that I just shared.

And I won’t share something usually because we live in a world right now where things get really misconstrued and people will put their own meanings on the things that you don’t tell them what the meaning is. Which is why I talk about why I do things a lot. Because I don’t want anybody. I’m a five. Projections are my world. So I’m very careful about the way that I put things out. But I have felt this need to share. So I’m sharing here, and I will share on social media, But I do take. I take a lot of time to think about really what I want to say. And sometimes it comes and sometimes it doesn’t. And I have conversations in my private life, but there’s a lot happening right now.

And so if you are a collective person, if you go through that Gates guide and you find that you are collective and. Or you are tribal, but we’re going to talk about collective today, those collective channels. Let’s talk about what the collective circuit is. So the collective circuit, first of all, collective kind of tells you know, it’s about the collective. It’s not about me as an individual. Now, if you’re an individual, you’re looking at this like, I don’t have a problem, Nicole. I’m totally fine with all that’s happening. I Mean, it’s upsetting, but, you know, I got my own things going on. I live with a completely individual person. And it’s very different. The pull that collective experience has on me versus having on other people that I know that are more individual in their nature.

Now, it doesn’t mean that if you’re individual, you don’t care about what happens in the collective. It’s just the imperative on us of what we do with that is very different. Because we’re humans, of course, we’re, you know, if you’re taking it in, then you’re going to feel something, whatever that might be. So what is the collective circuit anyway? What are the hallmarks of the collective circuit? What does it mean to be collective? So collective? The keynote with the collective circuit is sharing. It is inherently social. Social is another keynote of this circuit. And it is concerned with the benefits of humanity as a whole. That’s our job. The collective circuit is critical. The collective circuit looks out in the world and it says, yes, I agree. No, I don’t. I need to tell you about this, okay?

And the collective circuit is broken into two parts, two halves, so to speak. One side of the chart represents one, the other side of the chart represents the other. So the splenic side of the chart is logic. This is collective logic. This is the logic looks forward and logic tries to figure out the pattern. What’s going on, what’s happening, how do we figure it all out so that we can do better in the future? And it’s never so I can do better in the future, it’s so we can do better in the future. It’s usually very detail oriented. It is critical and it is driven to mastery or to master something through repetition. Practice, practice, practice. Right? How do you get to Carnegie Hall? Practice, practice. That is a logical circuit kind of advice right there. Now, the logical circuit is.

This is the side that is trying to prove things. This is the side. So in what we are seeing right now, the logical circuit would be like a human rights lawyer, right? A human rights lawyer who sees what’s going on and who says this is wrong and will logically break down the argument of why things are wrong and how they need to change. And it won’t just do it for them. The way that this will manifest is that person will probably feel the need to put that out in a broad way so everybody can hear it. Collective people can get really hurt when their message is not received. Most of collective circuitry is going. There’s a lot of projectedness Especially on that logical side, because the motor centers aren’t over there. This is a projected area.

So when our logic is not accepted, it can be very upsetting. We can get really hurt and then never put anything out again. And then we get bitter. Even if you’re not a projector, you have projected channel that’s not getting recognized. You have logical stuff you’re putting out there that nobody is really appreciating and seeing how brilliant it is or seeing how right you are. Logical people, we love to be right, then you are going to get bitter. I don’t care what type you are. Bitterness exists in all of us. It’s just not going to be your main theme. Now then, we have the other side of the collective circuit, which is the abstract. And the abstract circuit is focused on the past and learning from the past.

So this is the side right now that’s feeling the need to post things about World War II and comparisons to Nazi Germany right now with what’s happening in the United States. This is the side that’s being like, how do we not see? The abstract is the home of the witness to see the things that we’re all seeing it right now. Here’s the video here. Here, let me show you. This is collective. Abstract is saying, how can we not learn from the stories of the past? Look, the people told us, they warned us about this happening again, and we’re allowing it to happen again. Now, whether you’re receiving that message or not, or you agree with it or not, I’m just saying that is a collective message.

And the collective, the abstract collective that’s sharing that stuff is beside itself right now because people aren’t listening. They’re not listening. The gate of the listener. See all of this stuff, if you have these, this is where you might being called up to use your collective voice. Because the collective side of things. Now you might find this in your life, this is coming. You might be the person that. That’s telling everybody that you know, and you’re having these conversations and you’re sharing it on social media. And you are, Paul, that things like the Epstein files and all of this stuff, and nobody’s listening. And there’s so much going on. This is social media, right? Social media is collective. It is sharing. That is what we are doing over there.

So in your life, it might show up like that, where you’re like, I gotta tell somebody. I have to tell somebody. And if you don’t, it will probably eat you alive. It will burn you, and you won’t be able to sit with it. Because the collective people have a very hard time sitting with something that they feel is unjust. Because that’s what we’re here to do. We’re here to call out the injustice. We are here to be the voice for everybody, for humanity, the voice for the voiceless. We are here to stand up for what’s right. That is our job. Collective people. So if you’re a collective person, what is it that you feel called to stand up for right now? Now, when we talk about this in the context of our business and how this shows up in business. Well, think about it.

Collective people will probably feel like they need to share things. They’ll be the same people that say, I hate social media, I hate it. I don’t want to have to be on there. But yet they also feel really drawn to it because they need a place to put their what they care about and what they feel they need to share. Now, what you need to share might not have anything to do with politics. It might not have anything to do with what’s happening. It might have everything to do with the food that we eat. It might have everything to do with the way people raise their kids or the way you raise your kids and what you see out in the world. But as a collective person, what you are taking in from the outside world matters.

What I see happen with a lot of collective people, and I speak from experience being one of them, that we can get really over emphasized on how original something is not our game. We’re not here to be the most original people. Doesn’t mean we can’t be. It just means that’s not what we’re here for. It’s not our thing. Now. Now, even if something. So I might be able to play guitar, but you know, maybe I can play guitar. Okay, but guitar doesn’t have to be my thing. Right? So you can still be original. Sometimes you can still create original stuff. You can still do that even if it’s not your thing. So I want to be really clear. Sometimes people are like, nicole told me that my human design says that I can’t do this. No, that’s not ever what I’m saying. Never ever.

Am I saying because your chart says this, you can’t ever do that. That’s above my pay grade. It’s a guideline to help you understand yourself so you can master yourself, so you can observe yourself and you can operate more like you are supposed to, like you are meant to, in alignment with your true authenticity in this life. Of what the world needs from you, not so you could follow a set of rules that now that we took you out of this. This box that you’ve been in your whole life, and now we’re going to put you in this one. No, not the game, not how I teach it, not how I work with it. Maybe some people will disagree, don’t care.

But I share about human design from this place, and this is what it’s telling you is if you are a collective person, maybe you don’t care as much about the tribe and the blood and because that’s what Tribal people are about. Our group, our success. Tribal is where teamwork comes from. Collective. It might feel like, you know, not more of an influencer. I’m going to influence people, and I can do it all by myself. I don’t really need a big team. I don’t really need all of that. I don’t really need to take care of people. It’s about, you know, I’m going to take care of, like, my big audience, and then I’m going to kind of focus on my life and do what feels right for me.

Human design can take away a lot of the stigma that we can put on the way that we operate and whether it’s right or wrong or should be or shouldn’t be. But individual people might not feel very taken with anything collective. It’s very interesting to me. I live with an individual, and my individual husband is just not sucked into anything collective like I am. He has zero interest or need to share with anybody. It isn’t about anybody else. It’s about him. It’s about his journey. And it is like, that is his whole thing. He’s actually an integration person. He is a centering circuit, I should say it is. You know, that’s his deal. That is his deal, and that’s authentic for him.

So what this does in our business is it can help us understand maybe why we’re drawn to things and to tell you where. So if I’m a collective person who feels really drawn to sharing something on, like, a podcast and on social media, and I really want to get a message out there, but I’m having trouble doing it. It’s kind of telling you maybe where you need some discipline. Okay, this is important to me. There’s a reason for this. It isn’t just my conditioning that’s pulling me there. This is something that I’m really meant to do. Maybe this is an area that I’m meant to master myself. Maybe I need to create some discipline. Maybe I really need to shift my relationship with these platforms and these ways. Maybe I’m thinking about it or going about it all wrong.

Usually it’s strategy and authority that can guide you to how you can do something more in alignment and make it feel a whole lot better than if you were than the way that you are doing it now. A lot of times we are forcing and sometimes we do have to make ourselves do things, but there are ways to do that in alignment that shift our whole perspective on it. The way you set up your life, human design, a lot of people take it as this set of rules where, you know, once it doesn’t work once, then they think they’re getting it wrong. And it’s. This is why the experiment is so much more important than any rules or books that you read or ways that you interpret it.

That’s why when I work with my clients inside business by design, where we’re working together, I can guide them back to where what the truth is of how they work within this system versus feeling like they have to be rigid with this set of rules that they now have to follow. That’s not where genius blooms. Genius blooms when you’ve created an environment that’s exactly correct for you and you operate within that environment in flow with the way that you are meant to work and you’re focusing on the things and shifting in ways that support you as an individual in the way that you are meant to work and what you are meant to bring this world. That is a very different process. This is. I approach it much more like an art than a science. I approach it much more like a dance.

Like, let’s try to reimagine how we’re approaching this. Let’s try to work with this versus oh no, you didn’t do this. Go do it this way. That I don’t find gets the best results. The human design is meant to bring the best out of you. And if you are a collective person, then sharing is part of your destiny. Sharing is part of how you start to feel like you in the world, like you’re doing what you’re meant to do. People get really focused on what my purpose is and they don’t get focused enough on how they live it. They want to know what it is. They want somebody to tell them. Because I think inherently a lot of us just want to hear how we are special. What is the unique way that I am special?

And I understand that so completely because I have been there, I have felt not special. And I look for things like human design and astrology and all these things to tell me what made me special and to tell me what made me fall off the track of my specialness. And it this system does bring you back to exactly what makes you special, but it doesn’t come from reading and rereading those definitions over and over again. It comes from living in alignment, working with it, doing the things that you’re meant to do, experimenting with that. So what if you’re a collective person and you experiment just with. I’m going to share more. I’m going to make sharing a priority, because it’s a priority of my chart. There’s something here.

If I’m having trouble with this, then it’s my job to figure out my way to experiment with, my way to getting over this hump of having sharing be a trouble for me. I have to make it easy. And maybe it takes a little bit of practice, practice to get there right. Are you collective logic? Well, then there’s probably some practice involved for you. It’s not going to be this natural thing that falls out of the sky. You were born with it. You were born with potential. All born with potential. And potential needs to be nurtured. And there are specific ways that you nurture your potential. And through collective logic, the way you nurture that potential would be practice, practice. Share, Share. Practice, practice. Share Share okay. I hope you enjoyed this episode. This was kind of fun for me.

I sort of flew off the cuff. Hope it remained on track enough for you to follow along and that you got value out of it.
